Identify the part, 69 camaro l78
Cant find it in the assembly manual, not sure if its suppose to have something else bolted to it, hoping you guys could tell me what it is and what attaches to it? The "L shaped bracket bolted to the last clamp on the brake line.

Where did the clutch return spring mount on a BB? That looks like someone added it for that. Small block frame mount would have a hole where yours doesnt

Re: Identify the part, 69 camaro l78
That is an "owner add on". As Bill said, probably for a clutch return spring. Originally, the spring went on a small bracket that bolted to the exhaust manifold. PM me your location.

Re: Identify the part, 69 camaro l78
Was that a common clutch "racers trick" to have an advantage?

Thanks for the responses, appreciate it!

Here's an example of the correct clutch return spring setup on a factory 1969 L78. The bracket mounts accordingly so the spring won't bind or interfere with the clutch bellcrank or "Z-Bar". https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9800745700.jpg

Re: Identify the part, 69 camaro l78
That looks more like a factory bracket that the power steering hoses would go through.

Never mind. Looking at the wrong bracket!.

Re: Identify the part, 69 camaro l78
I bet that car had headers. When they have headers it is really hard to find a place for the return spring to attach to. Thats why somebody made the bracket

Re: Identify the part, 69 camaro l78
Can a spring positioned there still get around the header?
|
Re: Identify the part, 69 camaro l78
Our survivor 70 L78 4spd car had a small 'loop' welded to the header tube for the return spring...pretty neat idea.

Re: Identify the part, 69 camaro l78
It could have been as simple as being part of a power steering hose bracket someone fashioned to hold them away from a set of headers.
This is mine. I could see someone throwing that on there at some point. http://i1164.photobucket.com/albums/...424_133634.jpg |

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u...psynu3vt9l.jpg thanks Rich </div></div> That "L" shaped home made bracket is the clutch spring attach point for a car with headers, did the exact same thing on my 69 Camaro L78 car when I installed the headers. And what you can not see in my picture is the piano wire extension rod I made and bent up to clear the header tube, the rod is much like what you see on a stock SBC application. Here is a pic of the tab I welded to the header tube for the clutch fork spring. This was on my 72 RS/SS BBC Camaro -- headers have been hanging on the wall ... pretty dirty. TAZ https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...pg_tab_001.jpg
