I remember looking at a Canadian COPO project, back in the 90's. The hood had locks similar to these installed. I managed to track down one of the early owners, who was related to the original owner and he told me that it came that way from the lot. I'm not sure where the car ended up. The last I heard, it was being restored. |

Re: Factory Hood Lock.Anyone seen these before?
Hey Thomas, was that Canadian COPO project in the 90's happen to be a color similar to a Lemans Blue, originally Frost Green? If it was, that was my car.

It may have been blue. When I saw it, the front end was all NOS sheet metal. The car was originally Frost Green. The interior was just sitting in the car. There was a transmission with it and a 427 in pieces. So, it most likely was most likely your car. The firm asking price was $20,000. It was a good buy, but it was more than I had in my car account and I was really looking for a running driving car. I did speak to one of the early owners. The story, that I got with the car was that the engine was blown up early in its' life. The original purchaser sold it to his cousin or someone similar. It showed Rallye Wheels, but was assured that it came with steelies and dog dish caps off the lot. That is the best my old brain can do, after all those years. |

Funny. Just saw this. It won't take much bravery to cut holes in a hood that already has holes. It is a vintage fiberglass stinger hood for my Z. It doesn't have provisions to use a factory latch, but can use the factory hinges with weaker springs. Hoping I can figure out a way to make these work, as I think they look a lot cleaner than the traditional pins and clips. If I can't make this set up work, the whole set will be for sale again. |
Re: Factory Hood Lock.Anyone seen these before?
Thomas, that was definitely my car. When I sold it,it had a ladder bar setup on it, was painted Marina Blue. I primarily used it as my street racing ride, actually it pretty much was a racer most of its life. I guess the fenders were replaced because they had a couple of spots of rust at the time I had it, and the hood was replaced because of the hood locks issue, nobody could find the hood rings that were lost during its first repaint. I searched for the car in 2004,and found that it had been restored, and was going to Barrett-Jackson 2005 Scottsdale. I believe a picture, and description may still be on their site. That was a solid car.

What a small world. You are correct, it was a very solid car. I'm glad it was restored and that someone is enjoying it. |
