Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
I am the second and fourth owner of this Chevelle. I bought it from the estate of the original owner in 1998. I reluctantly sold it to a good friend in 2001 with the agreement I would get first chance if he decided to sell. It took 15 long years but it is finally back in my hands and I won't be letting go anytime soon!!
Original paint with the exception of the right quarter and door, original interior and original driveline. I don't believe the motor has ever been out and the car has 122,000 miles. A few bumps and bruises here and there but I love it just the way it is Documentation includes two build sheets in hand and one untouched on top of the gas tank (Van Nuys car), protecto-plate, original window sticker from Harry Mann Chevrolet, pre-delivery check sheet, and original sales contract. Nicely optioned with M22, buckets, gauges, cowl induction, am/fm, remote mirror, tilt wheel, bumper guards, power steering, and posi rear. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...4-p1050661.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...5-p1050662.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...6-p1050663.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...7-p1050664.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-p1050667.jpg |

Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Very nice Gregg. I love these survivor cars. So much neat information can be gained from them as well as just standing next to them you can almost hear all the stories that they have been through. Take care of her.

Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Congratulations on getting your old Chevelle back. Nice car by the way.

Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Wow I'd be getting out my buffer out and primp that thing within an inch of it's life and then drive it forever!!! Can I ask what makes the gas pedal angle like that??? I saw it on a car I went to look at but didn't see if something was broke???

Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Congratulations on getting it back!

Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Thanks guys. I have a lot of cleaning and detailing ahead of me. I had my hands full when this car was last in my possession so it didn't get a lot of attention and my friend pretty much parked it in his garage for 15 years. This time will be different. I swear!!
Ron, I will look at the gas pedal as soon as I get a chance. |
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Two pics of the car at Speedway 605 in Irwindale, Ca in May of 1976. I have the sales receipt for those Delta 60 Trans Am tires in the picture.

Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
That is awesome. Congrats on being patient!

Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
I just want to encourage anyone with an unrestored survivor car to post in the preservation forum. Gregg if you plan on posting detail pics as requested by M70 I will then move this thread to Preservation. BTW love the car and great story...

Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Congrats Gregg,
Always nice to get that one car back. Make sure you drive it...... Paul |
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
And you got the blue CA plates too. Are you gonna' put Wide Ovals on now?
|
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Paul, just got back from my first real drive in the car in nearly 20 years. Oh how I missed the whine of the M22!
Steve, I will be posting some pics as requested when I get a chance to get it up on the lift. Maybe in the meantime I'll post some of the docs if anybody cares to see those. Do I need to worry about people stealing information from build sheets and window stickers? No problem moving the thread if you want to. Ron, the gas pedal retaining pin had come half way out. Pushed her back in and all is straight with the pedal. No Wide Ovals for now. |
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
That's a beauty !!! I'm green with Envy.... ENJOY !!

Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
I hope you don't take a buffer to it like was suggested. Atleast maybe check what the paint thickness is before doing that, if you did. Great looking car.

No Wide Ovals for now. </div></div> At least put fresh radials on it. Tires that are 10+ years old are dangerous of you really want to drive it - especially if you want to use the M22 like it was intended to be used. |
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Sacrilege!..put brand new Bias-plys on it & enjoy it the way it was intended to be.
|
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
It's going to get new radials before I do much more driving. Just could not resist taking it out today. Those tires are probably closer to 30 years old.

Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Very Sharp car!!
|
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Great car and love that you get to enjoy it a second time.
|
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Tell folks who look inside the car "The interior is original, just the dirt is new".
That's what I say about my car. Andy |

I second that. A nice survivor like this needs "survivor style" tires. |
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Let's all chant: WIDE OVALS! WIDE OVALS! WIDE OVALS!
|
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
My Vote is for the Goodyear Poly Glass Tires,
A car like this deserves them. Glad to see you got that car back. My favourite color on the 1970 SS |
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
I'm with the other guys I'd got with Goodyear poly glass or Firestone wideovals. It's hard to beat the look.
|
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
You guys are killing me!
|
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Okay, POLYGLAS! POLYGLAS! POLYGLAS!
|
Re: Another Survivor - My LS5 Comes Home!
Then we'll need a nice burnout/launch photo with the F70s smoking. Yeah, you gotta' do it.

I'm with you! I like to look of thew WideOvals but thats crazy going backwards with technology, I was in tire business almost 20 years and they used to make some dang good radials in 70s-80s GY Wingfoot and Eagle NCT's I wish you could still get them today - today thair isnt much good at all in 14-15" tires I just bout tires for a 2000 Formula RA car and even the 17" rubber is scaling back now sad sad sad its your car get what you like |

Well here she is with the new Firestone Wide Oval radials. I think I got some of the first 14" available from Coker. Boy does it ride a lot nicer!
|
----Very cool! The tires look great. Tell us about the ride......Bill S
|
Gregg, excellent choice on the tires. You get both the look & ride. Enjoy the car and drive it like you stole it!
