Having mine done right now, on the highest recommendations from a ton of Mustang guys, by

Re: Original AC fuel pump

I just got back my two 40726 A/C Fuel Pumps from Goat Hill Classics.

The new lower steel portion (crimped) is CLEAR ZINC plated.
I've never seen an original that wasnt YELLOW ZINC Dechromate ?????

Of the two, one of the main bodies (aluminum die cast) was recolored
a Dark Olive Green (??). The 2nd pump body was not recolored at all
and not fit to be on a show car ?????

I paid $137.50 each to have these "R&R (Rebuilt & Restored ????)

I've written Paul for an explanation.

Do members have pictures to post of what they believe to be correct fuel
pump restorations ????

Re: Original AC fuel pump

Below is the reply I received from Goat Hill...........

" Good afternoon and I am sorry that you were "stunned".
A. We simply hand wash ALL Crimped AC Fuel Pump AC housings rather than ANY mechanical or Chemical process that would alter the Original Cast finish.
B We assemble ALL crimped Fuel Pumps with the New Canisters that we receive from our USA Vendors. There were and still are various colors of Zinc DeChromate from near clear to a yellowish gold and we have no control over what we receive.

Goat Hill Classics

I am very disappointed with the cosmetic restoration on my two A/C embossed
426 pumps..........
Clear Zinc is Silver & Yellow Zinc DiChromate is Goldish/Yellow (what a B.S answer)
I anticipated that a restoration would include recoloring the body (ala Eric Jackson on Holly Carbs)

In other words they don't give a S#@T what they look like. Not a big deal to have the new cans plated correctly. But your suposed to buy that story

I hope my bad judgement, my bad experience tells EVERYONE here to be wary of
GOAT HILL restoration quality.......

Now Ive got my original 70 Z28 pump and another 69 "426" pump that are NOT
show ready and I just dont know what I'll do now......

Re: Original AC fuel pump

I just got two 40768 pumps that a customer bought from him and then shipped to me for his project and to use the best of the two. Looked ok but the cans were not indexed correctly and now cannot hook up the carb to pump lines! Paid big money for them.

Re: Original AC fuel pump

We had 5 of the 727 pumps done about 10 years ago...it took a long time, but they came out ok. All functioned properly and the plating seemed ok to me, but I'm no resto guru

I would follow the lead of guys like Mike and others on the best sources in today's landscape.

Ha Rick!
I had the same problem with a 768 pump I got from him last year and was told by him that I was the only one that complained about the indexing problem.
Tried to tell me I must have a bad line kit until I sent him a picture of his pump beside an NOS one.
He did eventually get me a correctly indexed one after about 6 months.
I'd definitely contact him and get him to send out 2 replacements.

Re: Original AC fuel pump

Good info Chris...When I called him asking for a 470 he asked for all kinds of info regarding the car like "what's the casting # on the block","what type of pulleys" "what's the coil #" and the build date...when I told him it was a pilot car with no date on the TT he claimed "It's not uncommon to have a repop TT" WTF!
Plating was not correct, indexed fine, looked like an old used pump.
I eventually got it but not without an inquisition.

Difficult person to deal with.

Re: Original AC fuel pump

I've had similar problems with goat hill. Had to send mine back and it took 8 months to get it back round 2... still not 100% happy. Bottom looks more clear then gold. One of the worst industry experiences I've had. Do not use goat hill.
