70 442 Day 2 (Decade 2?)
1 Attachment(s)
Met a new car today, a Porsche Guards Red '70 442 with 25+ year old Graphics, Center Lines, and a thumpin' Mondello-style 455 backed by a Tremec 5 speed and Ford 9" rear. Painted red with graphics under the hood, too. Well, except the inner fenders, they're not painted. They were already red, (how convenient).

----So don't keep us in suspense. Is it a W30 or does it just have a set of red inner fenders???
----Very cool. It should go in the day 2 exhibit at MCACN......Bill S |

Ha! Yes its a '70 W-30 4 speed car, still in the hands of its original owner. Originally 75 75 red with White buckets/console, and was the last of 3 or 4 442's he bought new. He's a Day 2 guy to the core, he financed a little extra so he could buy mags on the way home from the dealer. He painted the car himself years ago, and was telling me how it still needs a bigger carb, etc. I appreciated his stories but told him you won't believe this, but the never on the ground Uniroyal spare tire (XT rim) was the highlight of my trip, because that's just the kind of geek I am, lol.
Engine/trans/rear are apparently still around, so it may be a W30 again one day, but not under his ownership:) |

Wow
Very cool |
Re: 70 442 Day 2 (Decade 2?)
Does it still have the Ram Air hood? It looks like a flat hood.
|
Re: 70 442 Day 2 (Decade 2?)
Yes, heavy fiberglass scooped hood with chips off edges here and there. Looks like a steel hood underneath though- I had to rap it with my knuckles to make sure....

Re: 70 442 Day 2 (Decade 2?)
Kool, another one of the 1,300 4 speed cars accounted for. Anyone look for paperwork in the car?
|
Re: 70 442 Day 2 (Decade 2?)
I'm strongly suggesting that they look for a broadcast card. I'm correct in assuming build sheets in Lansing cars are pretty much non-existent, no?
|
Re: 70 442 Day 2 (Decade 2?)
A build sheet in the traditional Chevelle/A-body format is very unlikely in a Lansing Michigan built 442. The broad cast card will have some pertinent info and confirm the W-30 status of a Coupe. The good news is that other types of factory documentation, such as line sheets and/or inspection sheets have also been found.
Under the rear seat, behind the bucket seat back and under the drivers foot well carpeting are some of the most common places to find the broadcast card. |

Cool, or as Stefano puts it "KOOL"!

Re: 70 442 Day 2 (Decade 2?)
Hi Steph. Is it not 1032 4speed w30s ! Awesome find . The more paper trail the better .

Re: 70 442 Day 2 (Decade 2?)
Don't quite understand your post but here is the accepted W-30, 4 speed break-down.
Of the 264 Convertibles 96 were 4 speeds Of the 262 Post Coupes 142 were 4 speeds Of the 2,574 Hardtops 1,032 were 4 speed Of the 3,100 w-30s 1,270 were 4 speeds All W-30s are Kool. |
Re: 70 442 Day 2 (Decade 2?)
Just saying they're were 1032 4speeds hardtop's . not w's in total . And I will say in now a days world with 4speeds car's the more document's the better . Because of rarity as you well know . You are right w car's are bitchen .
