Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Is there a list of the cars that will be at the Yenko Display in Pittsburgh this weekend?
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
What event is in Pittsburgh this weekend? I'll be there visiting family so I'd love to attend a show or something.

Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Awesome! Didn't realize it was the VGP weekend, thanks!
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Wow. Someone take photos and share. Wish I would have known. That should be an awesome display.
Thanks, Marty |

Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Nope!
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Did they promote it here and we just missed it ?
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
I don't remember seeing anything?
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
It is sponsored by Classic Industries that owns the Yenko trademark, so no there was never anything on here about it. They should have came here, will be interesting to see who's cars they have. Maybe by invitation?
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
I know Jeff Leonard and he knows he is welcome here. Jeff owns Classic.

Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
I have the sneaking suspicion that the VGP is why these guys (that I had to make a detour on my walk to work to get some pics of) are in town as well.

Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Anybody go ?
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
I went with my wife and son, but last night I broke my toe chasing after my son's ATV when he lost control of it so I couldn't walk too far and didn't make it around to see the display, but I heard it was there.

Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Couple cool race cars. Pics to come.
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
I do not think the guys in our marketing and advertising department are aware of the traffic that this site sees on a daily / weekly basis. I have made Jeff aware that I am on here. If I had caught wind of this I would have made mention of it. Sorry it slipped past me.

Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Both are gorgeous but I think that red fuelie SB car may be just a tad sexier
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
I am glad that you enjoyed my and Classic Industries event
. Put it on your schedule for next year...it will be truly breathtaking. |
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Thank you for posting the photos. How many cars were part of the Yenko 50th Anniversary display?
Thank you, Marty |
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
is that Donna Mae Mims's pink Corvette in the corner of one of the pics?
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
It is the Mims' Vette. Sorry, no pics. The white and red Vette's, plus 2 racing Corvairs were there as well as a few new production Yenko Camaros. Three of them maybe. And another aluminum BBC off to the side that looked fun as hell and particularly scary.
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
I had a nice conversation with a man whose plastics company made the hoods for the Yenko Camaro.
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
What was the name of his company Markus?
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
I asked about the molds and he said they were thrown away years ago.
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
The red Corvette was used by Gulf Oil Research as a parts development car for the cars raced by Dick Thompson and Don Yenko
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
That's a shame about the molds. Thank you though
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
By the way, I am the person who invited Classic Industries to participate in the PVGP
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Do you know who you spoke to or dealt with? You can PM me if you like so we don't hijack the thread
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
I have been working with Jeff and Ray on various projects since 2009
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Well that makes sense then... lol

The red/maroon 1963? Corvette no. 11 is not a Yenko race car or a Gulf Oil Research car. It was built (I think in the 1980s) by a friend of Don's who also was a Yenko collector. He bought it as a used car and built it using some real Yenko/Gulf Corvette Team parts and some reproduction parts. The hood is a repop of a Grand Sport hood and the car has some nice parts from the Yenko/Gulf Corvette Team It was driven by famous Corvette Team drivers Dr. Dick Thompson and Ed Lowther in the 1980s or 1990s at the Pittsburg GP vintage race when they were there as guests of the GP |
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Yenko had fiberglass parts made by a few places
Two were Parrish Plastics and Perfect Plastics Industries both were in PA. I have parts from these two companies I was told one of the companies was a racing buddy of Don's who made shower stalls and many other fiberglass parts and worked with Don on making racing parts and production parts for Don's projects |
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
That seemed to be Don's M O .. He would pull favors from any direction he could. Kind of like the Atlas wheels
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
Actually,Don's MO was more of convenience and willingness to be patient about getting paid.Tom Parrish and I have joked about Yenko's glacier like payment history.
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
And with me being of the younger generation that is the kind of stuff i'd like to learn more about.
|
Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
It occurred to me that I had not given proper credit to those who contributed to the success of the Yenko display at the PVGP.Firstly, Classic Industries who sponsored our tent..David Hamburger of SVE,builders of the new Yenko Camaro, for the display of cars,Sun Chevrolet for providing commemorative t shirts.former Yenko employees Warren Dernoshek, George Furda, Sam Gallo, ( and me )for answering questions and sharing stories. The Grand Prix has asked me to make a Yenko display an annual event. I will be issuing invitations to Yenko car owners for next July 15&16.2017. 250,000 spectators that weekend..put it on your calendar. A worthwhile charity and Donna Mae's favorite event.

Re: Yenko Display at Pittsburgh Vintage
As stated, we attended the Pgh Vintage Grand Prix and loved it. Was a resident of Pgh for 30+ years and it was the first time we went and we'll definitely be back there next year.
