Thanks guys for the help

Re: 1970 Nova rear sway bar ?
That is likely a '71 Nova, everything is the same except for the hanger bars - they bolt in front of the bar instead of the bottom. I suspect a good welder could reposition them....

Re: 1970 Nova rear sway bar ?
Iam going to sell it anyone knows whats it worth. I don't see any out there to compare thanks

Re: 1970 Nova rear sway bar ?
If you had the floor weldments it would bring a premium. Most Novas do not have this option and is a desirable add on.
|
Re: 1970 Nova rear sway bar ?
I don't see the '71+ versions sell very often, the '70 version is the hard one to find since it was only in production for about 6 months and the L78 & Yenko guys want them - they typically pull $1,500 - $1,800 for a complete set with the '70 spring plates etc...

Re: 1970 Nova rear sway bar ?
I have a bar came off a 72 or 73?Nova SS and its down links are different still. Your down links look like 70-73? Camaro/Firebird links and they now reproduce em, but not for the 70 nova pic above. by my measements it looks like its 9/16" dia bar - wonder if all Nova are same diameter? I know the F-bodys vary from 9/16-7/8" depending on the suspension and year. Brent the repro links are $130 plus the Nova bar is rare anyway I would think 3-400$? depends what someone willing to pay I guess

Re: 1970 Nova rear sway bar ?
My Dad's Cousin ordered a new 1970 Fathom Blue Nova SS350 Automatic from Marhefka Chevrolet in Windber, PA when he got back from 'nam. When cheking off boxes on the order form, he ordered the suspension package (F41?) that included the rear bar.
In telling stories about the car, the one item he remembers in detail was the rear sway bar. He said all the dealership techs were checking it out as they had never seen a rear sway bar on Nova. I never really thought much of it when I heard these stories. I always thought it odd that he remembered this detail, as he really hasn't been a "car guy" for 40 years. I Guess it actually WAS a pretty unusual sight in 1970! |
Re: 1970 Nova rear sway bar ?
FWIW, If your hunting this complete set up, always check the build date, As Marlin stated, they only appeared in the 2nd half of the 70 model year. Anything built prior to Jan 70 would probably not have the set up factory installed. Also, if you find a potential car that has it/had it but the bar and links are gone, check for the floor welded upper mounting brackets anyway. If the car was cut up (raced.?) it was almost certain the bar was in the way and chucked, but rarely would the welded brackets be removed. Grab those anyway

Re: 1970 Nova rear sway bar ?
Agree with Sully, the floor brackets were rarely removed but the sway bar was simply in the way for even installing generic traction bars! The only bars I've seen where the RSB was retained were the Drag Dimension bars, specifically on the Roof Deuce.

Re: 1970 Nova rear sway bar ?
Measured my nova bar was 9/16" diameter. Anyone else have different diameter than that on Nova?
|
Re: 1970 Nova rear sway bar ?
I believe most are 5/8" although I have a L78 car that has a 13/16" rear bar on it.
