1961 Ford Starliner
I have a really good friend that wants to purchase a fully restored 61 Starliner, something like mine.
Know of any? Rick :dunno: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...3-p1010038.jpg |
Re: 1961 Ford Starliner

Re: 1961 Ford Starliner
RCC,
Is that your Starliner that Pete posted? is your friend looking for a modified car or one restored to original condition? |
Re: 1961 Ford Starliner
Hey Tommy;
Yep, that's my "Tangerine Dream" Ford. It's running a 68 428 CobraJet "LeMans" engine, 3x2's, a Ford Top Loader 4-speed, Bucket seats https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ner_pics_011.j https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ner_pics_030.j , center console and the obligatory 3.25:1 Tru Trac Posi. My buddy is looking for something that's at least closer to "done" than to "not done". Rick |
Re: 1961 Ford Starliner
Tried to attach a few more pics of the Starliner--didn't work! Sorry.

Re: 1961 Ford Starliner

Still has the 390 but now has the dealer installed 3x2's that bump the horse power to 401 and a 4 speed. Tires are 7:10x15 Firestone original non dot tires. Gottum from Verne quite a few years ago |

Here is my 61 Impala, its a real SS and its also has the 409 motor. I guess these are my top two cars

Re: 1961 Ford Starliner
Hey Tommy;
Damn, those are really beautiful cars! Last year I owned (and sold to a good buddy) a 1962 Impala SS, 409, 4-speed, dual quad, posi rear end--"Beach Boys" car. It had 22000 original miles. I really miss the car and the sound of the solid lifters--nothing quite like them in a real 409/409. If you ever think of parting with the 61 SS, please let me know. Maybe we can do some horse trading. Rick |
Re: 1961 Ford Starliner
Tommy's cars always draw a BIG crowd - perfect!

Re: 1961 Ford Starliner
I would sure like to see a few pics of the others! Amazing collection. And I thought I was one of the few that liked (and bought) cars from all the major manufactures!

That's neat! I remember you buying a micro car of some type at BJ a few years ago. What was it? |

Hey Charlie;
Have you ever measured the length difference between your longest and shortest cars? Must me more than 10 feet! Beautiful wheels. Rick |

Re: 1961 Ford Starliner
I'll tell you, those three deuces are not all that easy to keep properly tuned and synchronized. Know of any "foolproof" shortcuts or procedures?

Here is the Plymouth. 426/4 speed Sport Fury. originally a 426 street wedge with the Max Wedge stuff added. It does have the correct 3705 carbs and the exhaust with the cut outs.

Rick </div></div> The purists will cringe at this -- but I had a 67' Vette w/3X2 Holleys on a 427 motor. I took the vacuum secondary parts off (I kept them in a safe place) and converted to mechanical/progressive linkage with parts from Mr. Gasket/Weiand including small hiem joints from various aircraft linkages. "Work good--go long way" ... Not sure if there are any "kits" to do this in this day and age. TAZ |
Re: 1961 Ford Starliner
Tommy and I might be "Brothers of another Mother"!
I've had several cars very similar to those that you now own--a 62 Vette, Fawn Beige Metallic w/ a Fawn Beige Interior, 327/300; a 66 Satellite w/ a 426 Street Wedge converted to a 2x4 set up, a 63 Ford Galaxie 500 XL(Chestnut Interior and Exterior)running an "R" Code, dual quad, 4-speed center console bucket seat, a 64 Fuelie Vette, Satin Silver w/ a Black interior, a 67 BB Vette, Marina Blue w/ a Black Stinger and Blue interior and a few more. If anyone wants to see a pic or two, please send me a PM with your direct email address and I'll reply. Taz, again many thanks for the help, Buddy! The x2's open one at a time depending on the throttle depression and mechanical linkage adjustments--kinda like a 3 stage rocket. Rick |

Rick</div></div> I had mine setup with the center carb as the primary -- secondary linkage opened the end carbs together about 2/3 throttle. |
Re: 1961 Ford Starliner
That's about the same--on mine, the center is primary and then the one closest to the firewall kicks in(about 1/2 throttle) and finally the front carb cuts loose(about 2/3 throttle).

Re: 1961 Ford Starliner
Forget me looking for another Starliner for my buddy, I WANT that engine. Pretty sure that's Ford's Hemi, isn't it?

Re: 1961 Ford Starliner
Hey Charley;
What other surprises do you have up your sleeve that you might want to reveal? Rick |
Re: 1961 Ford Starliner

Rick</div></div> Rick -- I don't think that is the Ford hemi. The 429 "Shotgun" engine was the hemi -- Ford named it the "Shotgun" because they felt it could compete with the fabled Dodge/Plymouth 426 hemi (aka -- Elephant killer). Didn't work out for them because of the HUGH ports, there was terrible low/mid range torque fiqures ... had to spin ther hell out of it to high RPM to get any power. I should add the engine above looks like the 427 SOHC ... TAZ |
