This Impala is well sorted out and ready to drive anywhere. From what I have learned, it was purchased new at Luby Chevrolet in Baltimore, MD on April 16, 1966. The first owners kept it until 1996 after accumulating 87000 miles. The next owner bought it from the children of the original owners (who were not interested in that old car) and drove it only 3000 miles from 1996 until 2015. I bought it in August 2015 and drove it from Maryland to Arizona, averaging 19 MPG. It runs great and has been very reliable in the 6000+ miles I have driven it. Currently has 97000+ miles.

Features the original 283/195 2 BBL engine and Powerglide transmission. To the best of my knowledge, they are the born-with components and have never been out of the car. The only options are AM push button radio, which works, and power steering. Almost everything works, including the COLD light. The clock and the windshield washer pump do not function. The protecto-plate, original owner's manual, and accessory manual are included.

Some time ago, it was repainted the original color of Madeira Maroon in single stage enamel. The black bench seat interior is original to the car and in great shape for being 50 years old. The carpet is not worn, but it does have some stains. The package shelf is warped. The headliner has no rips or tears. Upholstery is mostly damage-free and the dash top is in great shape. The trim is in great shape too.

The previous owner replaced the radiator, along with the belts and hoses. The brake system was overhauled with new shoes, hardware, and hoses. The tires were replaced for the road trip. I replaced the master cylinder with a correct unit, the heater core, and the oil sending switch. Many original parts are included with the sale, including the original radiator, shroud, heater core, hub caps, and ignition coil.

This Impala is no show winner. The paint is faded and there appears to be some previous rust repair in the typical areas of each quarter panel and each front fender. The doors look solid as do the floors. The trunk floor has some surface rust and some rust through next to the wheel wells. There are dents on the left front fender, back of the left quarter panel, and near the wheel well on the right quarter panel. The original owners probably made occasional contact with the two-car garage it was parked in. The rear window was previouisly removed and resealed. I replaced the trunk weatherstrip.

Most of the exterior trim is in great shape, including the wing / vent windows. This Impala has a "survivor look" and is ready to be driven anywhere. For a 50 year old car, it runs and drives very well and is quite comfortable sitting in during long trips, and I should know.

I am still accumulating miles and enjoying this great Impala. It receives lots of attention at shows and cruises because it looks like a great original car. Currently located in Peoria, AZ.

I found something else I like on the web, and my Chevelle may be next. Still thinking about it.

What a neat yet simple car. A great cruiser indeed. Good luck, I'm sure it won't last long.

Re: 1966 Chevy Impala

Thanks Dan,

My original "opportunity" has come and gone. So for now, I just want to sell one of these and keep the other. If the Chevelle sells, I have major plans for the Impala, and if the Impala sells, there are two minor things I would like to do to the Chevelle. Since I drive the Chevelle so much, I'd like to change the tires and wheels to something a little more "streetable". Nothing wrong with the Polyglas's, but I would enjoy a better combination for cornering.

If they both sell, I'll find another opportunity.

Too many kwhizz threads about LS motors in big Chevy's

This looks like a great car for somebody to get into the old car hobby with pretty inexpensively. Reliable, good looking, survivor-ish, mostly sorted out. Where else can you get all that for less than $10k these days? I'm shocked it is still for sale.

Re: 1966 Chevy Impala

Very Nice Car. But IMHO, I think the trunk floor and lower fender and quarter rust is scaring everyone off. The problem with Big Chevys (Any Big Car for that matter)is they take 3 times as much money and time to do correctly, and when your done they are worth 1/3 of what a Chevelle or Camaro is worth. Don't get me wrong, I Love the Big Cars, I have a 1966 SS-396 A/C TH-400 Impala Coupe that needs everything and is the Next Project waiting to be done.

Re: 1966 Chevy Impala

Thanks everyone.

I thought about fixing the issues, but I would rather someone see what they are buying. I don't want to end up taking it off the frame, etc...., then be too afraid to drive and enjoy it.

For now, I was not planning an LS conversion.

I am amazed at how many guys have contacted me only to say, "Let me check with my wife." I mean, I'm OK with someone telling me the truth, but giving up your Man Card?

This car is very well presented...including the rust issues. I think that's what makes the SYC member ads a cut above the normal online crap.

Good luck...someone will get a cool car and hopefully put some time and effort into making it even better.

Maybe. But since it is out there, I'll leave it available and see what happens.

But I'm shopping for stuff for it.
