1963 "Psycho Too" Gasser Chevy II Nova
1963 "Psycho Too" Gasser Chevy II Nova
This Historic Nova needs no introduction.....as it has an extensive history. Perhaps the most historic Nova Gasser of all. This 1963 Chevy II sold brand new at Nickey Chevrolet. The car was raced by a local Nickey mechanic, then it was purchased by Joe Szabo and Ralph Richter. They took the car to Wisconsin to R&B and Lil' John Buttera did his magic on it. The engine is a crate L88 with 12.5 pistons. It has a Hilborne mechanical fuel injection system, the trans is a clutch flight Turbo 400, and a BOP rear end with a 5.13 and welded spider gears. The rear wheels are chrome reverse and the front are spindle mount Halibrand (real magnesium). All of the parts on the car were restored. The 4 piston Hurst Airheart brakes are the originals to the car just rebuilt with new pads and seals. The drive train was completed by Wolf engines, Dyno results at just under 700 HP. The lettering on the car was all copied and stenciled before the project was started and "Brando" hand laid all of the lettering and silver leaf. *Vintage Real Deal Gasser from the 1960’s *Raced at UDRA events throughout Midwest *Chicago, IL. historical race car *Full owner history, vintage racing pics/albums and video *Fully restored to as raced condition This Nova is located in the Chicago area Price - $85K Please contact me with and [email protected] Thank you, Dan Vasic http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psem4peov2.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psj0u8pqsv.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...pskk9mdbs1.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psmcue96wa.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...ps3juz4qvs.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psqcmkjfzp.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psadtep2li.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...pstwiyghlf.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psn6ezeqti.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psku1lxmlt.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psevxzd8bd.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psqc6dicne.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psw3jtjm4r.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psmiljyqky.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psvkgzviut.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...pskzjmb34e.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...pssy3gs1mr.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psfwcjoeyq.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...pslxo7bcvu.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psv1pukk2v.jpg |

Re: 1963 "Psycho Too" Gasser Chevy II Nova
I know this car well, and the level of the restoration far exceeds the normal race car type of work. It was faithfully restored with all the critical pieces being original to the car. When it debuted a few years ago, it received more oohs & aahs than any car at the show. If I remember correctly, the Szabo family came to the show just to see this car, and were extremely emotional over seeing their dad's car in such fabulous condition.

Re: 1963 "Psycho Too" Gasser Chevy II Nova
Who restored it? Cool piece for sure!

Re: 1963 "Psycho Too" Gasser Chevy II Nova
Dave,
Psycho Too was meticulously restored by "Muscle Car Designs" and "Day 2 Speed Shop"....the team of Bob Adams, Gary "Zuppa" and Dan Reimer. Dan |

Picture #3 was taken on our way back from Minnesota....(Got rained out) and we were traveling down I94 and we came upon a exit sign with a city named Pigeon Falls.....(between Eau Claire and Tomah).....The guys thought that was the funniest name for a town........Joe took pic's of the car while stopping there and there was a picture taken of the car and sign together........LOL......Great Times !!! Was it always a clutch flight?
Asking for someone who runs in Quain Stott's soputheastern gassers and they have to run manual transmissions. |
Re: 1963 "Psycho Too" Gasser Chevy II Nova
She was a 4 speed very early in life but has been a clutch flight since the late 60's.

Re: 1963 "Psycho Too" Gasser Chevy II Nova
Notice the car is called PSYCHO Too..........The original Psycho car was owned by Tom McDonald and was a Maroon 64 Chevrolet Biscayne 409 car with a Hydro Motive built Hydro trans......Thinking back to the day, those Hydro trans really sucked as far as the ratio's that those transmissions had........Tom never drove the car on the street and was raced from new........took a brand new car and cut radiused wheel wells in it.....Tom and Danny Rush had a Gas Station around Cicero and Belmont.......Tom only ran the car for two seasons and sold it (never to be seen again).......Danny, Ralph, and Joe were good friends, so when the Nova was finished .........the Psycho Too name was given to the Nova...........Memories......LOL

This rare photo just popped up on The Book O’ Faces this morning. I have a lifelong affinity for 409 cars and I’ve never seen this ‘64 before but I did remember Ken talking of this car in this thread. Next question: what happened to it?!

All I see is Vent Windows (back ground) :)
