end of 40year road trip

Hello, New old guy here. Story For Ya. 1968 my older brother buys new Z28 from Fencl Tufo, about 7 miles from our home. British Green, console delete, M22 and 4.56 rear end! Cool! After a few years sells it to our little brother who wants it bad but soon trades off for ratty 66 Vette,Big Bro goes nuts, would have bought it back.
Bad vibe for next 40 years but both had other 1st gen Camaros over the years. Last year little Bro buys plain old 68 Camaro and, you guessed it,the Z is back! First finds big fuel line. Then traces of original green paint!
Calls big Bro and sure enuff though we cant find anything with a A VIN he finds three unique tell tales from back in the day. One of which is a shortened wheel lip molding with an extra screw he zipped in when the car was pretty new and remains to this day! It was just a car then and ya did stuff like that. Like tossing the POP
Yup did, that too. We have polaroids of big bro and his brand new Z28 but no docs. I have sent for shipping info but we know all that.It got an engine transplant under warranty at Fencl Tufo (69)
and the tranny was stolen while there. Also replaced with 69 M22. That's all long gone. The car will never leave the family but for the sake of the car we will try to find a way to document it. Some where out there is a 68 M22 last six 411496. Its in the process of being restored to as it was on the showroom floor! Any ideas for us? Will post pics from new til now when my son shows me how!sorry about long post ,wanted to share this freak occurance ,it can happen. Now if I could stumble upon our 69 442 W32 Ram Air car also purchased new life would be good! Mom looked good in that car, thats another story.

Welcome to the site. Great story.....looking forward to updates & pics.

It's a long shot, but....Any chance big bro still has the same insurance agent from 68? They may have a file with VIN from back in the day.

Thanks all for the interest. Story continues, grab the popcorn,LOL. Sent for docs and got a surprise. This is beyond any doubt the car Charlie bought new at Fencl Tufo Chev in Glendale Hts Ill. NCRS docs show that car as delivered to Barford Chev near St LOuis Mo.which turns out to be another notorious dealer of Chevy supercars! It must have been a dealer trade. Both dealers known to have big Muscle displays outdoors in fair weather and spring of 68 Fencl Tufo had a bunch of Camaros on the lawn and they hooked my brother in, but his was on the showroom floor and was the only Z28 with that 4.56 rear end which he wanted. No we are not crazy this is that car. Just noticed the holes from the air shocks he installed back in the day, everywhere we look there are bits of evidence. Not sure on the insurance company but will explore that. State of Ill archivist swears they only go back ten years tho that seems strange. The only thing we have dug up is the village of Lombard vehicle sticker application with plate number, no VIN. Barton closed in 1980 so no help there. The car deserves authentication so we will keep digging. Any body know if British Gree was limited to muscle cars? color chsrts show it as a Corvette color only. Another clue? Thanks for the help. Save our cars and please do not ship them overseas!

Awesome ds1,they sound like sister cars. This one has April 10 build date. Have pics at dragstrip and at home but need my son or someone to post them for us. I am a computer challenged old guy, having fun trying. Back to fifties coming up June 17! 10,000 classics and street rods on the ground for three days,Hog heaven. That's St Paul Mn. for those who never been Google it. Yes 10-12 thousand cars present for real.

Charlie and his 68 Z28 in the front yard and at Great Lakes Dragway 1968. The car can look like this again, but he never will!! That's age for you. Will post current pictures as work progresses.

Same car different year. We have it pretty torn apart now after the fire. Lots of British Green turning up under the blue repaint, 350 going away.

"The car can look like this again, but he never will!!" How true for all of us. But getting behind the wheel again will at least make you feel like you are 20. Great photos, thanks for sharing them.

Kind of fun for your thread, here is some Fencl Tufo memorabilia for you to see. The first are original dealer decals. The top one that is orange and white and is most likely circa 1970. This is the one that Charley's 70 1/2 Z28 Camaro had on it as well as the Hugger Orange 1970 Yenko Deuce that was sold there. The red white and blue one is most likely circa 1980, maybe came out in 1976 with the bi-centennial hype?

Wow Frank! Would do anything for that jacket. Thanks to all for the encouragement. The onlooker in that engine photo is our 82 year old cuz Angelo who is still building awesome street rods and drives truck everyday. Never quit, never quit and never quit. Scored correct engine and heads for the Z. Talked to a guy at Ill. DMV who loved the story after being kind enough to listen and he is willing to try to follow our only paper lead to date. Car guys are everywhere, what a great fellowship. Will post as we progress. Also have a great pic of The Z,57 Vette and 62 Vette owned by our bro in law. All three British Green cars .The 57 is still owned by our buddy Louie after 48 years and he shows it around Chicagoland. The 62 was white But our brother in law liked the green so much he had it painted. I think that pic was in 1970. I'll get my son to post it when I get a copy.
