HBC, not Made in the USA

Normally I don't say much about vendors unless they go above and beyond. HBC advertises "Made in the USA" on their premium gas tank EGP-1003. I called and they said it was the Spectra tank I was looking for. It was a pretty good sale, so I drove up to Shelbyville to pick it up. I could have gotten it from Rock Auto for a couple dollars less, but I like to shop the brick and mortar when I can. Normally they ask $152.26 for the $100 tank. It was on sale for 9% off, so $138.75. Then they have their 20% off sale right now. $111.00. When I get there, Jim tries to screw me out of the sale price and tells me it's still a great deal because it's Made in the USA. He was trying to charge me 20% off the full price saying normally it isn't a discount item. Luckily I put a bunch of things in my cart on line as a shopping list and brought the print out with me. He didn't care. Luckily someone else rang it up and I was able to argue it and got it for $111.00. I should have left it, but it was a long drive.
To top it all off, I got it home and even though all the HBC stickers on the box say "Made in the USA", it says, "Made in Canada" inside all over the tank. No disrespect to Canada here, but when I am told it is Made in the USA, it had damn well better be. No response to my email questioning this... Still advertised on the website with USA made.

Spectra is a great tank, and always knew them as a Canadian company.

I knew Spectra had a great rep, but I didn't know anything about the company itself.

You should probably also post pics of where is says made in Canada just to complete the facts.

I'll do that Charley. I don't have a pic of it handy right now.

Maybe JIm knows something we Canadians don't know yet. Last I heard the Orange hair loudmouth was going to put up a wall. Maybe it will be made from Spectra gas tanks.

I think he mentioned Canada as well in earlier ramblings.......would make it tough for him to visit the Trump tower in Toronto...lol!

As for Spectra - great tanks - I have used them exclusively when NOS wasn't an option. A lot of the parts on our cars were made in Canada originally.

The sticker they put on the box is made in the USA.

Re: HBC, not Made in the USA

Maybe he meant "USA made" as in the city of USA, Japan, since there are no periods after each letter like in U.S.A.

No disrespect intended -- just pointing out that there were vehicles made in Canada and they were of the highest quality. I agree -- I have no issues with Canadian products ... except for the snow, make an effort to keep that. LOL TAZ

I have no problem with Canadian made products. Heck, both my paternal grandparents were made there. I have a Spectra tank in mar car. Great quality at a very fair price.

I do have a problem with putting a "Made in USA" sticker on a product that wasn't made in the USA (with or without the ...) and marketing it as made in USA.

Re: HBC, not Made in the USA

Maybe it's a result of NAFTA that they can call it USA made if it is made in North America?

The best tank made. We use these a lot at the shop.Better then a beat up nos tank. I like to put liner in new tanks if the car is going to be a show car. They will rust when they sit for years. The liner will prevent the rusting.

And none taken. Yes, I'd appreciate them more if they'd keep the cold fronts too!

I love the tank so far. I had a bad experience with lining a new custom Harley tank years ago, so I don't go down that road unless I have too. Mine will be driven and kept full when stored, so I don't think it will be an issue.

If you're looking for the Spectra Canadian (a.k.a. "US made") tanks, rockauto usually has them the cheapest and charges the least for shipping. I've bought them recently for my Gramma's 75 Firbrd and my 95 Diesel suburban. Very satisfied with them.

Rock auto is great usually, but I think Amazon might have them beat on this one. $105.78 free shipping with Prime.
