Ball Joint Kastle Nuts
Need all 4 Kastle nuts for a '69 Nova. Not sure where my originals went, nor where the new ones are - if the replacement joints even came with new nuts!
|
Re: Ball Joint Kastle Nuts
This is exactly why I (normally) don't throw stuff away.
Marlin, I wish I could help, but this time I am certain I threw away all four of those on the Nova subframe I got a few years (ok, a bunch of years) ago. I will look, but am almost certain they are gone. |
Re: Ball Joint Kastle Nuts
Marlin -- most "ball joint" kits come with new nuts ... be careful using old items on suspension anyway. TAZ

Re: Ball Joint Kastle Nuts
copper coated ball joint castle nuts??????
mark, tell me more what you have? |
Re: Ball Joint Kastle Nuts
castle nuts..cotter pins and rear brake plate to rear end are bolted together with copper coated stuff originally on certain assy lines..its corrosion resistant and is assy line...ive taken many orig cars apart and if you clean carefully you can see the copper..i actually found a post somewhere on the 12 bolts in camaros shows the copper nuts on the brake backing plate...i didnt know what to think, and then searched a little and they show up a lot.
i have a bunch that the Leeds workers took home in their pockets or stole or pinched what ever you call it...seems like most assy line guys estate sales have a few of each.. cotter pins are a unique shape and size...i will get a few pics of whats easy to get to. |

This copper split pin is from a 69 Norwood Camaro. Haven't had a copper castle nut yet. Mike https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-dscf4698.jpg |
Re: Ball Joint Kastle Nuts
Thanks all! I agree the new joints should have come with the nuts, but....

Re: Ball Joint Kastle Nuts
Mike, did they use the copper split pins on all Camaros from Norwood? I myself had ever noticed copper castle nuts on front suspension.

Re: Ball Joint Kastle Nuts
I have no idea, I took the photo above last year while cleaning up the steering linkage from a low mile 69 Camaro. That is the only time I ever saw the copper plating, and I believe it was never touched as it was removed from the car with 299 mi. on the clock.

Re: Ball Joint Kastle Nuts
i have a bunch of those cotter pins, theres 3 sizes..i havent done a lot of research..i wonder if anything has been found on the CRG,,those guys love stuff like this but the Buick guys and Olds guys are starting to realize they have them and are asking questions..ive seen them for decades..some better than others..but until recently it didnt ring as assy line stuff..i remeber somewhere i saw a post it was for grounding and another its corrosion protection anyone find copper nuts on camaro leaf spring mount plates?..cuz i have some that fit those too..shock bolt nuts and washers too..how i figured that out..a stud with a nut and washer came together and the nut and washer was copper plated i looked last night and found a few nuts and washers..it may be a bit..i am unpacking..but i kept all that stuff together...when i find the stuff..i will post pics |
Re: Ball Joint Kastle Nuts
Mike, please tell us more about the 299 mile '69 Camaro.

Re: Ball Joint Kastle Nuts
It is a old drag race car that started out as a sb RS 69 Camaro, @ 299 miles it was turned into a drag car. When the currant owner bought it he got all th OE take off stuff. I got the front seats door panels , complete steering system and the steering box, rear shackles, mint RS wiper motor, . He would not sell me t.he RS components. Damn it ! He also had the hacked up dash carrier with the odometer. @ 299.
The seats went into the Ed Stinn COPO I restored, the rest is sold. Mike |
