My Peanut Port BBC 467 Engine Build
 

My goal was to build a smooth idle 9.3 compression 467 BBC with peanut port heads (236 castings) then put it in my 1968 Chevelle for a drag test, yes a real drag test. Some pictures as the build went along. The center piece of my build, notice the symbol.........that sure isn't a hump there!

Any pics of the finished intake ports?

Just curious--have you ever tried working a set of "820" heads? They have a relief cast in the chamber by the exhaust valve similar to yours

Yes, I have used them, Its actually a similiar chamber as a 215 or 063 or 290 with that cut out behind the valve.

I've used the 063s -- made good power for a first half-a$$ed open chamber design ... FWIW I am still running these heads with porting similar to Sissel (spell) mods ... TAZ

This will be interesting. I have a late 80´s motorhome 454 with peanut port heads that I´m going to use in my 1974 Corvette. The engine is like new inside so there is no machining required. I´ll put an aluminum intake on it but haven´t yet decided on which camshaft to use.

I should clear something up -- the 063s are NOT peanut port. Peanut port heads are normally found on truck engines to build goobs of low RPM Torque. 063s have larger oval ports. TAZ

Those look like the '69 '148' chambers.

Does anyone know the chamber size of stock '148' heads? I've seen a lot of conflicting info.

I'm curious to hear about the results. I've always been curious about the peanut port heads. It seems like many guys have been going to oval ports for the street and peanut ports may even offer more driveabilty?

4 bolt block and steel crank on peanut port engine now I've seen it all!
But, you have my attn now!
I'm putting parts together for a 454 for my nova and common sense says get some 781 heads but the weight...

Do you have a picture of your &quot;236&quot; heads before the combustion chambers were worked on ? I looked at my &quot;360&quot; heads today and the combustion chamber looked a bit smaller om mine.

Thanks. I love what you are doing with peanut ports. Wish they made them with early 100cc chambers, as they seem like they'd be perfect on a 396/402.

Eric, I took the factory passenger car 4 quart pan and gutted it, I then fitted the factory LS6 windage tray, and that was it. The only thing I need now is one of your carbs, this summer for sure!

On 4.0 stroke and smaller builds, does the windage issue show up early in rpm's , or just 4.25&quot; stuff and up does the issue really manifest itself?

I can't tell you guys how lucky I am to have this engine builder in my back yard . He just finished a stock 396/325 motor for my 69 Convertible I'm restoring it made 406hp and idled at 650 rpm. Everytime he dyno's one of my engines it's like seeing your new born child

I ran this engine to 6700 RPM with no windage issues, but I wouldn't run this pan on a longer stroke engine.

The chamber is the same as a 236 but 360s have stellite exhaust seats.

Mark, no induction detail or cam specs? I know this will work well. Probably run faster then it should for the Hp of the engine too.

The intake is a Performer RPM. The cam is a hyd 228/.540/111.

Mark, that the way I like them to look, innocent and mild. Then the thing runs like the wind. ANYONE can make a aftermarket run, it's these engine with nothing really special in them and run hard that surprises people.

Now if you didn't block the fuel pump drive, let the belt turn the waterpump, and used a &quot;normal&quot; distributor and not a crank trigger. It would be even more innocent.

Hopefully you can give us any insight on how to tell a 4 bolt block externally they used to have a 1&quot; plug for oil cooler now as you can see thats not on this block, is there any other way to tell without pulling the pan? the side oil galley plugs used to be 1/4&quot; vs 1/8&quot;? sorry I dont mean to hijack your thread [img]<<GRAEMLIN_URL>>/crazy.gif[/img]

The external 4 bolt main ID is only a sure thing for 1971 and earlier blocks as far as I know. After that it is hit and miss. I'm excited to see the results of this build. VortecPro is such a tease.

Later 445 casting block only have a 3/8 pipe plug. All factory 4 bolt 4.250 blocks are un shrouded on the deck for the intake valves.

Congrads Mark. Not to shabby for smooth idle, running on probably and gas you can find and the peanut ports. I figure your making &quot;around&quot; LS-6 numbers with less cam, less head, less comp the those miserable running LS-6's. Would seem like a nice stop-light car too.

NOW you need to throw into the mix, those 2 427's you did. I figure this should come in pretty much just a tick under engine #1 due solely on cam, comp ratio and castings????
