Is this car have original paint and everything matching engine, transmission, rear and interior and does anyone on site have looked at this car and verified the car at some time?

Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
Yes we Vintage Certified the car in 2004. The car did achieve our Legend award. The car has complete original drivetrain. The owner should have the judging sheets I would contact him. If he's agreeable I can release them as well. There aren't too many COPO's in this condition. I will say over the years the many owners attempted to enhance its condition.

Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
One of my favorite cars .
|
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
For that kind of money, I would have to have it re-certified. Many things could have happened to that paint, if its had more than one care taker since judging. If something happens to a car (storage, in and off trailers, etc), you never know if it was made to look like the original survivor state, and if that is the case, you made a big mistake if found later. I think running this car back through judging, would cover that base for me, for that kind of money.
It is a car that anyone would like to have, no doubt. |
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
One of the nicest looking COPOs ever.

That car is from Malcolm Konner and I believe the body number is the 1 prior or after the green copo I listed for a friend. I thought?? this car had a full under hood resto last time it was listed on ebay about 6 months ago. |
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
The original hood with the hood pins is still on the east coast. I heard the owner was doing burnouts with the original Tiger Paws a few years ago and blew one of the originals. A great original drivetrain Copo with nice options with great paperwork in a great color. I'd love to own it.

Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
Great car. I wish the eBay ad had engine compartment photos ...there are 24 pics but none show the engine compartment or undercarriage

kinda proves my point, a lot can happen from 2004 to 2016. |
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
He wants more than twice what the starting bid is.
|
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
When Sandlin offered it for sale on here I believe it sold with in 30 minutes... I saw it posted and then it was sold.
|
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
The owner who bought it from Steve still owns it, I offered to sell him the twin to his car this L89 but he was not interested.

Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
Whats the story on the L89? any factory paper?
|
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
yes and verified by Jerry M.as original born with drivetrain if that means anything. Also well known by William on this site.

It is a car that anyone would like to have, no doubt. </div></div> I agree and after seeing the photo that Chuck posted, I would say that the motor compartment has been restored. Still a neat car though. |
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
Its a fantastic car whether the engine compartment was restored or not.
|
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
I thought it was well bought when it sold, didn't Kevin S sell the car to SS?
I saw photos at one point the engine compartment and it was very very original, every photo I have seen has an original firewall and etc, what if anything is anyone sure of? |
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
what was the reasoning for changing the hood?
|
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
I thought when I looked at it that the whole car had been clear coated at one point. I was told by another member that was the case. Paint was definitely to nice for original in my book. It's the nicest 69 I've ever looked at.
|
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
I had known this Cool car since the early 80's . Such a great car. I might be mistaken but didn't someone shoot clear over the original paint?
Just read your post Don. Yep I thought so. |
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
That's what I was told. That lacquer clear was applied over the original paint.
|
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
I remember it before it was fluffed. Still a great car. Back in the mid 80's I was working a a vette shop in North Jersey and recall the owner putting feelers out to sell at 35K
|
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
I guess that's why supercars like this will always be out of my reach. Back in 84-85 People laughed at me and thought I lost my mind when I paid 6 grand for a 70 Ram IV judge with 32,000 miles and bought a Real deal Z16 chevelle for 8 grand. Drove it to work and beat the snot out of it on weekends. Oh well

I know the car very well.

Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
What has been done to the bottom ?
|
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
Here's the orig for sale post in 2007. Looks like it sold in 14hrs.
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...aro#Post280605 It appears every owner has tried to make it "nicer" rather than preserving it's originality. If the paint was cleared that's easy to confirm with a polish or fine compound. Still a really nice car.... |
Re: S. Sandlin's Former RS COPO
What has been done to the bottom ?
It was for sale 4-5 auctions ago and it was pretty dirty for 15K miles [mostly original] with a H pipe or some type of aftermarket exhaust if memory serves me correct,I have a pic somewhere . It had around 50-60 pics in the auction at that time. It hasnt been listed with an undercar photo the last 3-4 or so times its been advertised,so maybe its different now? It is a body number off the car my friend has in the for sale section and oddly they are 15K and 20K mile original drivetrain cars from the same dealership. Would be nice for someone to own both. I thought the unrestored engine looked absolutely perfect for the car, rather than the restored engine . |
