1969 Camaro Help

2 Attachment(s)
New to the site, first time poster, so here goes:

Last year me and my dad bought a 1969 z28 Camaro. We had known about the car for quite a while and it was sitting since 1975. We were told that this car was a Nickey Camaro so I did some research and now I need help.

The car was delivered to the original owner with a crossram setup. When we got the car the crossram was gone but the car did have original Bill Thomas headers stamped BH-37. The heads (original) were ported and the lifters were pinned. It had a flex fan, an electric fuel pump, the yellow Nickey/Bill Thomas traction bars, a lakewood scatter shield, and an ET rear end differential cover. Had the NHRA front windshield sticker and a Kar Kraft license plate on the front as well.

I requested the "shipping data report" but the VIN is in the range of VINs that are unavailable. The seller did not have the protecto plate but is digging up some old photos for us. I didn't find any build sheets under the rear seat or on top of the tank as it is a Norwood car - haven't looked inside the seats yet. Is there anyway to get more information about this car? It is an early car with no X-code but the VIN stamped on the pad of the DZ 302 matches the VIN on the tranny and the VIN for the car. All components are date matching to the Trim tag, even the rally wheels. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have lots of photos if that would help.

Thanks,
Kris

Post pics of the trim tag, and the engine and trans stamps. A lot of knowledgable people who will help. Is the car black?

He already knows it's a number matching Z.

I imagine the back side of this car would look like this?

Re: 1969 Camaro Help

It is a fathom green car, just very dirty in those photos. As far as the numbers go, hidden VINs match the VIN plate and the partials on tranny / engine pad.

Any suggestions on how to decrease the photo file size? Having trouble posting more pics because file size is to large... Most were taken on an iphone if that helps...

Congrats, sounds like a Kool Z28.

NicKey Chevrolet sold many Z28s from 1967 to 1973. According to the late Don Swiatek, he was directly involved with testing both the GM X-Ram as well as the aftermarket X-Rams.

He personally owned and drag raced a 1969 Z28 with an X-Ram.

Hey Pete. Thanks! We got the car from the second owner who let his son drive it in high school. After he graduated it was parked permanently...

Here are some photos of the numbers:

Hi Stefano. Thanks for this info. Is there anyway that you know of to verify or authenticate the car?

Thanks

Re: 1969 Camaro Help

You may still have the X code in crayon behind the rear seat, passenger side near the top, just below the package tray.
Nice motor and trans stamps, good luck with the project!

Re: 1969 Camaro Help

All those stamps are legit and verify that you have a real 69 z/28. How about the rear axle tube stamping?

Our files are limited and we do not have any records for your Z28.

Your going to need to do some leg work and start kicking over some stones. You never know what might turn up.

Good luck.

Steel or fiberglass crossram hood? What is the story on the stripes? Was the car repainted and the stripes left off? Any under hood pictures? Neat car.

Re: 1969 Camaro Help

I remember meeting a guy with a black nickey camaro (67 or 68 but not a 69) in a Morris IL car show (just southwest of Chicago), he said when he asked someone in the know, to verify his car as a Nickey, they said to look for a stamp or punch on the core support with the initial phone call. What ever he found, led them to step 2. His car turned out to be real conversion, after that initial phone call. I dont know if would indicate was serviced there at this point (and that's how they tracked who worked on the car), but it could mean something. Take with a grain of salt.

Nice looking car from the pics, Why would you tear it all apart rather than cleaning it up and getting everything operational & fixing what needed fixed ? Appears to be a real nice car to start with ....

Just curious but do your factory headers have a round 4 bolt or round 3 bolt collector flange?

KGR 01-27-2016 05:56 PM

Re: 1969 Camaro Help

Yep rear end is BU 1105G2 - 3.73 November 5 which falls right in line with everything else. Got very lucky with this being such a complete, unmolested car!
