It had the repro tag on it when it did the record $ 800k or so at the '05 Mecum auction in St. Charles, IL. I heard it had the original tag at that time but I would think it would have been put back on when it was restored again?

Man that car has been kicked around more than an unwanted dog. I like how it say "It developed a knock" "When GM refused to warranty it ... he refused to pay for it" ... Playing hardball.... I love that color

If it really did have the OE tag on it at that time why did they use the wrong body number on the repro? |

The people who think they are getting even by not making payments only hurt themselves. I see it more than you'd think.

It had the repro tag on it in '05 but "the owners" had the original tag I was told at the time. Obviously the original has not made it back to the body if it really existed. If they didn't use the correct body number on the repo tag then the original trim tag must be long gone.

That was my first ZL1. Mike Ryan had taken it part way apart to redo it because he said the Camaro club had done a horrible job on it. When I did my deal with him he said it was ready for paint and re assembly. He said the jambs were already painted etc. I traded my restored Silver COPO, the 1970 Hurst Sunshine Special, a Lemans Blue RS JL8 Z28 and money. When he delivered it all the paint he had put on the jambs etc had "blushed". A painter explained he had used wrong reducers or something like that. The paint had a milky look. He had not even bothered to remove all the old weatherstrip glue etc. Shame on me for not going up to look at the car first. I put a car cover on it and pushed it under the mezzanine for storage. I don't have any digital pics so I'm guessing it was before I had a digital camera. I'm not sure I would have even been able to spot a fake tag back then. Later Bowman bought it and sent it to Tinnell for restoration.

Charley you traded all of those cars for this one or for the restoration?

I traded all those cars and money for the car. Turns out the car needed total restoration and not just the paint sprayed.

Charley, your honesty is refreshing. Same with Kwhizz and his "New Yawk" '66 ragtop Impala purchase. I bought an engine from a well-known seller without doing my due diligence and I got hosed too. Shame on me! One of these days I'll post the pictures of the engine and tell the story. ALWAYS go look before opening your wallet. |
