My favorite type of muscle car:
1968 hemi GTX: Original owner, low miles, was used as intended, cool color. Even has its original wheels (last pictures show snow tires!).
It looks like someone just loved and enjoyed that car. I wish I had some extra funds, I would go after this one! It would never leave my collection! http://estatesales.org/mesa-az-estat...auction-707219 |

Not too far from my house!

Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
I sure hoep whomever gets it doesn't do a full resto. Cars like that should be left alone and enjoyed.

Wow I would love to clean that car up and leave it. The original rims are being auctioned off separate. |

Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
My FIRST car when I was 16 was a REALLY GOOD CLONE of a 1968 440 GTX convertible. 440 4 sp Dana 4.10's, black with black top, red interior. Car was nice and was "good" money in this part of Canada. I paid $4,800.00 for it. It was my second choice. I actually BOUGHT a 1970 Barracuda 440+6 4 sp Dana 4.10's. B5 blue with blue interior. Guy went away on business during winter and was longer coming home, so I was able to buy the GTX.
Now back in 83/84 is when this happen. The GTX was $4,800.00, the Cuda was $3,700.00. Both had really good paint and interiors were nice. To put it into perspective, Rene Destille (sp) was from Quebec. He was at a local show with his 70/71 Plum Crazy Hemi Challenger R/T convertible. At the time, this was a magazine car and he was ASKING $30,000.00 US at the time. We thought he was WAY outta line and would never get that. Man I should have bought that car and mortgaged a house LOL |
Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
The big body '68-'70 GTX's are some of my favorite Mopars of all time.
Mopars always seemed to be the choice of burnouts and pot heads back when I was growing up for some reason, but they have truly stood the test of time and look great now. I'd totally buy one if the right deal came up. |
Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
Love those quarter window decals! They give the car so much character. Leave it as is.

Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
Here are some pics so you dont have to click on the link. If anyone is going to this auction that lives near by, those Hemi wheels I believe are worth $500 a piece, or even more (if they are 15"). It is sad if they sell them separate from the car. Man, I wish I could bid on it, and just wash it and leave it like we all would do! I dont think that shade is really common on a mopar is another reason I love it.

What the heck is that???? A blank broadcast sheet that someone filled in by hand, and then put fake seat spring marks on? |
Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
OR it is an actual sheet with faded letters/numbers that someone wrote over to make them more legible? Should have made a copy and then wrote on it … just MHO … TAZ

Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
Very cool car.

Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
They had a copy of the original Indiana title the original Arizona title a copy of the build sheet that was handwritten and the current title.
The original owner was still alive and present at the auction and thought the car was worth 125 K which apparently in 2006 is what he was offered.... |
Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
I am very surprised this car went for that kind of money, good for him and good for us all : )
|
Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
I think $93K is VERY strong money for that car.

Scott (and Bill), I agree! |
Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
Way more than I would have even considered.
|
Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
I think a few things aligned on why it went even more than I thought too. If they made close to 400 or so hemi GTXs, very few (in my opinion) are in a very desirable color like this one. Color does matter in value. Lets say that narrows the field to 100-150 cars produced. Then add in it's a survivor with original engine, no mysteries. That likely narrows the good color cars down to maybe 10% (or 10-15 cars on the planet). So I would guess, everything lined up for atleast 2 collectors, to try to compete for this rare car. They did the math on the odds you will NOT find another like it any time soon.

Re: My favorite type of muscle car:
Wow $93K is big money for that car IMO. Great car, with docs, and original engine but seems to be high. I love the B body cars from 68 - 70 very cool, with outrageous lines, especially the Charger. I agree good for us. I hope prices keep climbing.
