Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
Any Tips on getting old 1974 NOS tires to look like new again? Just bought them and they need help.
|
Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
Post a photo. If they are covered in what resembles a white, greasy residue, that is mold release and it can be drawn back into the rubber by simply using a heat gun to remelt the residue.

If its white letters or white walls try wet sanding with 400 with a comet or spray nine liquid.

Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
Team 3 Protectorant works great and also preserves the rubber. The only protectorant on the market that does not have alchohol in it.
Armor Al destroys rubber tires. |

Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
Cool tires! 2nd photo of tire: lettering should clean right up with Bleche Wite or paint thinner or the like. 1st photo may need some touch up as it appears that the white color did not transfer to tops of some of the letters.

Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
I have some Ranger Tire paint, and some acrylic white art pens for the touch ups. I may use that. Not sure about using a rubber roller rejuvenation product, like a copy machine? Have heard that but haven't seen anyone try it. Not a huge fan of the "off the shelf" make your tire shine products.

Don't use any paints or white letter paints etc-don't do any sanding etc, rubber roller rejuvenation etc.Youa re going to ruin your tires. I had a set of NOS N50 Pro Tracs from the mid 70's.. Used Westleys Bleche white on the letters with a stiff brush and the tires as well and they came out like new and they looked way worse than yours. I use Team 303 Protectorant as it has no alchohol or petroleum in it that destroys rubber like STP or Armor All. The RV association of America recommends Team 303. Gives a nice even black sheen After Team 303 they look like new. |

I have heard that somewhere also. |
Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
Definitely try the bleach white. It is legit.

Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
Westleys Bleche white has always worked really nice for me. Gets rid of the dirt on both white and black parts of the tires. You end up with nice clean tires with no fake greasy looking shine. I would only use it on tires that are off the rims.

I have a stiff bristle brush I use on my shower I will give that a try with Westley's, (if you can still buy it in the stores). Aslo this 303 protectant, are both of these available at the auto parts store? ...and yes they are different tread, not a big deal to me from side to side, as they are just going on the rear. They're not strikingly different, just different but good eye. |
Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
I paid $100 for the pair, I hope they hold air, they're NOS, blems.

Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
I believe 303 is only available online.

Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
Nope. Go to the web site and punch in your zip code. My local NAPA stocks it.

Cleans 36 tires at $1.25 a can!

Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
That new formula from "Black Magic" sucks. I won't buy it, it doesn't work like the old Westley's. My dad has it and his yellow letters just won't get white. Is there something else out there that actually works that's non-abrasive? The 303 Aerospace protectant I should be able to get here locally.

Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
Just ordered this stuff called Amazing Roll-off to clean the tires. Figured I'd give it a try

Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
Use an SOS pad and then follow up with 303! It is not cheap but it is a wonderful product

Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
I bought Aerospace 303 Protectant from ACE Hardware, it should be at the store tomorrow. Hopefully that is the same formula.
http://www.acehardware.com/product/i...la=pla_1190188 The Amazing Roll-Off cleaner is on its way as well. Trying to keep the abrasion to a minimum at this point. Start light and go from there. 1974 tires |
Re: Get my NOS Day 2 Tires Like New Again
Decided to keep the Mickey's on the car. These tires will go on something else.
