my 1967 triple black ss427
ive owned this car for around 3 years, all the paint is original except for the hood.the hood is where the second owner started to restore the car, luckily he stopped.the engine is a ce block, the original owner wasnt pleased with its performance and blew it up twice with in 4 months.its a dec 66 car and block is april.all the rest of the engine pieces are original.m20 4 speed and 3.73 positraction.i live 50 miles form the original owners.they cared for the car well til 1997,in 87 it busted a ring land on a piston and was parked til it was sold in 1997.i have the window sticker, pop, and 2 broadcast sheets.Mr Matthews order the car to race and after 2 engines, his wife put a stop to it.after that he swapped the gears to 3.08 and it was her daily driver til 87.it did serve as a tow car for his 55 that became his racecar

Re: my 1967 triple black ss427
Nice car! I don't think Warren and I have more than about five black 67 Z24s in the registry.
Have you been over to impalass427.com? There is a great group of SS427 owners over there and they'd love to see your car! |
Re: my 1967 triple black ss427

Re: my 1967 triple black ss427
That is why your handle is SS427, isn't it? LOL
|
Re: my 1967 triple black ss427
Yeah. Had I known how heavily I would be into LS6's in later years I would have come up with something different.

Hey Rick, I never knew about your affliction with BIG cars. I have even more respect for you now. Why not consider expanding your restoration services? The '65-'70 big cars are exploding in the hobby today and most all of the owners are interested in correct restorations. I don't know where they go??? No names come to mind. In my little part of the hobby, people don't seem to care about the history of the cars or preserving them as produced. 95% just want a resto-mod. As long as they have those funny shaped valve covers, that's all they need. It can get really depressing. Anyway, stop by the 409 display at MCACN if you get a chance. Re: my 1967 triple black ss427
Verne, I thought we even talked about it before. I have likely owned over 30 427 Impalas and had 8 in my driveway the day I got married in 1981. I had a 67 Sport Coupe Z24, 68 Custom Coupe Z24 and a 69 convertible Z24 until just before I moved to Illinois. One of the 67's is the one I pictured above but was blue when I owned it. As far as restorations go, I pride myself in doing correct restorations not just pretty ones and even though I have owner many 427 Impalas, that was before everyone was anal about correctness and I know very little about these cars (internally) in reality as most were owned in the 70's and 80's when that stuff did not matter. If I knew people would bring their big cars to me I would learn them the way I have studied and learned the 70 Chevelle.
I will make time to stop by your display, you can count on it. |
Re: my 1967 triple black ss427
I had a set of those wheels 30 odd years ago [maybe 40 odd] But I knew them as Venture...made by Foresight...

Was going through some pictures this morning and thought this one was cool. My friend's 68 L72 custom back in 68 or 69. Looks to have the same wheels!

Re: my 1967 triple black ss427
Thanks for all the compliments, they are really appreciated.ive had a member here inquire if it's for sale and that has kind of got me in the notion of selling it.several local people who have known the car since new have asked and I've always turned them down, but I've been reconsidering.im just not sure what it's worth

Re: my 1967 triple black ss427
I would be interested in buying it from you too if you want to sell it. I'll even put my wheels on it and make it like it was back in the day.
Pm me and I'll give you an honest opinion on its value and make you an offer. I know these cars pretty well. |
Re: my 1967 triple black ss427
Damn. I would love it as well.......

Re: my 1967 triple black ss427
this is one of my favorite cars. I hope you dont sell it cheap, or sell it at all. I don't think anybody could find a car easily like this with documentation and that color combo. I have seen others in different colors, but the black is the best (evil looking).
I would to see it in my garage sitting next to my triple black 69 Camaro survivor!. Super cool car! Hang on to it because it will be hard to top that! |
Re: my 1967 triple black ss427
Thanks for all the compliments guys,Its very appreciated

Re: my 1967 triple black ss427
Rick, I hear you loud-n-clear on owning many cars throughout the years. I, too, have owned many, many cars that "didn't matter" much when I had them. The restorations back then were more for "eye candy" than for the "correctness". I remember back in the '80s I did a small block '69 Pace Car and I bought some incidentals from a fellow in northern VA that had "the" (don't know if there were more than just this one at the time; still don't) P-O-P machine with tons of blank tape and cards. He, myself, and a "then" well-known Camaro guy were joking about how nobody would ever fake anything for a small block car, let alone something as trivial as a P-O-P for a small block anything.......I'm not sure that the "then" owner of the P-O-P machine ever did make any of them; it was explained to me that he kinda had it as a novelty. My word!, how this hobby has changed (and in some aspects maybe NOT for the better).
