Nice red/white/parchment L78

Lots of color going on here...the black tail panel is almost too much!

I don't like the VIN stamp on the block.

Ad says " Complete original drivetrain".

The COA says it isn't.

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

The McNeish paperwork actually says:

<span style="font-style: italic"><span style="font-weight: bold">&quot;not equipped with complete original drivetrain. Some of the original components have been altered. This includes the engine, transmission, and rear axle housing.&quot;</span></span>

So what's actually left, to be original?

What really then, is he certifying? That an MQ engine block code is used on a 396/375?..That the car is a 1968 Camaro...

It's a beautiful car though. I do love that color combination.

Triangle Chevy in Raleigh is where the blue Bunn Ls6 was delivered.

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

I know Jerry has changed his paperwork and terminology since that car was certified back in 2000. And, like others before mentioned, the COA isn't really saying too much. My guess is the &quot;then&quot; owner wanted 'something' written from Jerry for the inspection fee. It is sitting a little high, but I think it is a pretty darn good looking car. I think the rear blackout kinda matches the black RS grille, and I have a &quot;fetish&quot; for white interiors.

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

Well something is confusing here, on Jerry's cert. it states shipped from Norwood, Ohio plant on January 16,1968 to Shultz Chevrolet Carlisle, PA then dealer transfer to NC. Then up top on certificate reads sold Oct 25, 1968 at Sir Walter Chevrolet. But the NCRS states delivered to Triangle Chevrolet Inc. which as of late 1969 early 1970 it changed to Bobby Murray Chev. which is still in business. Sir Walter Chev. has been in business since 1928. So should not the NCRS doc read Shultz Chev.PA.

Hard to read that with a straight face!

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

I personally don't like the cars offered by Flemings.....
I've seen way to many cars they've rated as 10's when actually a seven was a stretch
Many Camaro &amp; Chevelles of &quot;used car&quot; quality.... auction and quicky restorations by 2nd &amp; 3rd rate flippers seem to be there mainstay inventory.

This is J MHO of cars I've seen before they were purchased and inventory cars I've inspected ....

Is there anyone out there That knows the story on the drivetrain? I am interested in buying this car and Flemings Garage is telling me that it IS the BORN WITH drivetrain. I am skeptical with the paperwork ... Please either post on here or PM me any info. THANKS

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

Assume it is NOT orig drivetrain per previous posts. If orig drivetrain is important you will probably want to look elsewhere or better yet, let us know what you are looking for in a separate post &quot;cars wanted&quot; and you'd be surprised by the inputs you'll get.

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

I just spoke with Jerry McNeish He stated it is NOT the original drivetrain as represented by Flemings Garage. and he personally knows the car well.

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

Would have been alot easier for you if it said non original drivetrain years ago.

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

Jerry's report does say non orig. drivetrain.

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

Charley, Im not familiar with the originality of the car, docs or paperwork. But basing everything on the ONE page desrcription with Flemings ad, the words &quot;not equipped with the complete original drivetrain&quot; could certainly mean that the trans or rear are incorrect and it is still therefore without the complete original drivetrain . The word &quot;complete&quot; adds a new dynamic to the above statement.

RAII4speed 03-09-2016 11:41 AM

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

According to Flemings Garage THEY claim it IS the born with motor,Trans and rear They told me that Jerrys wording means &quot;the internals of the engine are not the original parts&quot; Jerry tells me the original drivetrain is and has been long gone.

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

You should suggest they call Jerry before their misinformation costs them a lot of money

the427king 03-09-2016 11:41 PM

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

This is definately a car youd want to hire an expert to look at with you if you are serious in buying. You dont seem to be getting any good info from the seller and there is no documentation as to if the real expensive parts are there, or if they are replacement items etc. Distributor, carb, alternator could set you back several thousands alone. Get it looked at to get a better detailed description of the components . Good Luck

RAII4speed 03-10-2016 01:07 PM

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

Oh not only did I suggest that, I gave them Jerrys shop and cell number to call. I no longer have any interest in this car. <div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Originally Posted By: ds1</div><div class="ubbcode-body">You should suggest they call Jerry before their misinformation costs them a lot of money </div></div>

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

Very rare, #’s matching , Jerry MacNeish certified &amp; authenticated 1969 L78 396/375 hp 4-speed Camaro RS/SS, fully restored with docs! One of only 4,575 L78 Camaros built for model year 1968!

Now I am confused. Car dealers!!!

DW31S 03-11-2016 10:09 PM

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

Not all car dealers are bad!!! I am in no way defending Flemming's.
And sad to say, &quot;Matching Numbers&quot; doesn't mean what it used to. Unless there are sworn affidavits or complete and comprehensive appraisals/certifications pertaining to drivetrain components, the term &quot;matching numbers&quot; can now be used to identify stamped/re-stamped parts that appear as factory installed originals. It is a different ballgame and I was told by a litigator in the field (off the record) that the complainant would LOSE in court if the case was based solely on that term. I find it disgusting, to say the least, that the influx of money and dishonest individuals has made our hobby/passion into a &quot;don't let your guard down&quot; atmosphere.

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

Dave, IMO ALL certificates of authenticity regarding valuable collector cars should be complete and comprehensive regarding driveterain/ components.

ds1 03-12-2016 08:47 AM

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

Exactly Dave. There are to many fly by night little dealers that misrepresent and sell bad cars to unsuspecting people. There are only a few I would trust. Chuck is a good one. Even here in my town there are a ton of little used car dealers. You know most of their cars come from the auctions. Auction cars can be good, but you have to wander if there is something wrong that the car is there.

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

I inquired about this car a while ago and saw the papers saying the whole drivetrain was altered. I couldnt find the email they sent me back but they tried to say altered meant like painted or something. Disgusting.

Re: Nice red/white/parchment L78

I will tell you this. If anyone is planning on buying a car from these guys then please please please do your due diligence and check it out completely. One of my clients purchased a supposed Z11 (That they advertised as a true pace car) from them for 46K ... Car turned out to originally be a code 67 maroon car with a black top and gut, 10 bolt rear, mono leaf w/ a 1985 truck BBC. They refused to give him anything back and 2 years later he sold it back to them after putting in money to fix things and he still took a 6K loss on it. The car had 2 drivers seats in it. BEWARE
