Not quite a barn find
5 Attachment(s)
I'm not a Mustang guy, but this was a great find! Not quite a barn find, but instead a storage find. This Boss was put into storage in the around 1980 and just recently pulled out of storage to be sold before winter. A great car that has never been apart. Car has just over 51K original miles and has never been apart. Great sheet metal with some little bubbles, but no holes or rot anywhere. All original suspension, springs, lines, brakes, great floors, etc. The car has a repaint that dates back to the 1970s, since the previous owner never had the car painted. Since finding the car we were able to verify the "born with drive train" and also verified all the original options with the Marti report. Original shaker, power steering, locker rear, 3.91 gears, close ratio 4 speed, chrome magnum 500s, console, rear spoiler, sport rear seat, deluxe steering wheel, tach. We installed a new gas tank, oil/filter, spark plugs, air filter, battery, and rebuilt the carb; now the car runs great.

sweet !!

Re: Not quite a barn find
That looks like a fun car, great purchase.

Re: Not quite a barn find
nice score! Congrats.

Re: Not quite a barn find
This didn't happen to come out of the Pittsburgh area when new, did it? Just curious, as I can recall seeing pictures of my Uncles car (purchased new) that was identical to this one. Would be a weird coincidence if it was the same car and it survived all these years. I saw you are in PA, which is what got me wondering...

Re: Not quite a barn find
Very nice find! I like those cars a lot...
|
Re: Not quite a barn find
Unfortunately, I don't think it came from the Pittsburgh area. Car sold new in Harrisburg, PA at Francis of Ford.

Yellow is by far the most popular color: http://www.boss302.com/paint.htm |
Re: Not quite a barn find
Great find, love those early Boss cars!
|
Re: Not quite a barn find
Nice Mustang! Curious, why does the black Boss stripe look white in night shot? Is this just an camera exposure thing? I know the Shelby's had a reflective stripe on them.
|
Re: Not quite a barn find
The Boss stripes were reflective too.

Re: Not quite a barn find
Got the Marti Report today and the car is optioned as one of one. No other 1970 Boss 302 like it. Mart Auto Works also had the ORIGINAL Ford Invoice. They provide amazing documentation!! Will post pics later.

Re: Not quite a barn find
This would be a great car for the MCACN Barn Find/Hidden Gems area, as it certainly was a Hidden Gem!

Re: Not quite a barn find
Ha!
Marti will break down any car to 1 of 1. Some cars really can't be broken down as much - maybe there were 5 identically equipped for a promotion, for example - but it's merely a gee-whiz thing. If there's any value of a car being 1 of 1 per the Marti Report, it's by how quickly it gets to 1. |
Re: Not quite a barn find
I am pretty confident I've seen cars that were that weren't 1 of 1. I'm sure out of the 197,xxx 1970 Mustangs there are examples of cars being the same color optioned the same. I think its more cool to be able to document a rare car with such detail than value added.

Trust me - when you see dealers on eBay bragging how their Ford is "1 of 1," Ford people just roll their eyes. There's plenty of folks making claims about their cars - even Camaro owners - but Ford can substantiate it. Doesn't mean it's not useless, unless you want to make a claim like only 1 Fairlane GT was built with the 427 in 1967 - that, to me, is a "true" 1 of 1.

</div></div> Thank you; my favorite of the ones I've seen was "the only blue one with an engine block heater". K |
Re: Not quite a barn find
So we need to come into this thread and try to spoil his excitement ?
|
Re: Not quite a barn find
So......are you bringing it to MCACN?

Do you say the same thing when some guy comes here talking about the 427 Nova he's found, only to discover it's a transplant once he's received feedback from this site? Yet this Boss 302 still stands on its own merits - it's a Boss 302. I hardly believe putting things in perspective, pointing out "1 of 1" is BS, is "spoiling his excitement." |
Re: Not quite a barn find
Great find!
|
Re: Not quite a barn find
I would love to park beside this car in the barn find/hidden gem display, even if my car is not as rare, only one of seven:-)
Bring it to MCACN Ryan |
Re: Not quite a barn find
I think Marti Auto Works does an amazing job documenting these cars. I value his documentation more than I value your opinion of it. It's simple, if you don't like the car or my comments on it; than don't look at it or read about it! It's my car and I'll state a TRUE documented statement about it if I want to.
As far as MACAN, I never gave it a thought. Let me see what I can do. Thanks for the positive comments about the Boss. |
Re: Not quite a barn find
You can do whatever you want - no one's stopping you. It has nothing to do with liking or disliking a car, and it's not something worth personalizing or making a fuss about because it's not about you.
But you'd be amazed at the number of 1 of 1 Boss 302s. |
Re: Not quite a barn find
You have to keep in mind that it is not seen by all as a 1 of 1 because of how it is broke down. just as an example, lets say 1000 boss 302's. Say there is a boss 302 with special paint, the only one ever built = 1 of 1. Then you have 260 boss 302's with AM-FM radio, but only one of the 260 had red interior. Both are 1 of 1, but people will always see them differently because people are thinking out of total number of boss 302's built. Roger

Re: Not quite a barn find
I have seen Matt's Boss in person killer original car. Anyone would be excited to see the car let alone own it!!! The car would be a great candidate for MCACN show.
