Re: munci capability through quarter mile
I ran an 11.40s with my 73 Z and the original M21 back in the day when I used to drag race it almost every weekend. Still works perfectly.

What rear gears? I think what clutch is in front of it would have been a better question. |

Re: munci capability through quarter mile
If you want to know the ultimate strength of a Muncie, and if it will survive in your particular car, you might as well ask how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.
What clutch? What gear ratio? Vehicle weight? M20, 21 or 22? All factory gears, case, etc, or upgraded aftermarket parts? Tires? Chassis set-up? How much of the gearbox fatigue life has been "used up"? How hard is the launch? Does it wheelhop? etc, etc, etc.... The simple answer is to go to the track and find out. If it breaks, fix it. |

Re: munci capability through quarter mile
4.56 at the time. 3.73 currently, I dont drag race it anymore. I tamed it down, smaller cam, dual plane intake, smaller carb. I also recently put in a 5spd tko600

Re: munci capability through quarter mile
I have been 10.40's with a stock M21 behind a 396/402 BBc. 4.56 gear 9 X 29.5 slick in '69 Nova. Had a Ram clutch with 3 pads, not a mild clutch, just something we put together for a mild streetcar.
Put the wheels 3 feet in the air and streetrace/beat on weekly for 2 years. Sold it complete for a powerglide set-up. |
