4,000-dollar headers! Put them on eBay! 14" wheels are a nice touch.

Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
So gm couldn't install the headers on the car at the factory due to emissions ,so they threw them in the trunk with Bill Thomas stickers on them ??

Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
Protecto plate looks correct but window sticker looks reproduction.

Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
Yep Barry, window sticker definitely not original.

Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
$5,000 headers. Which I can attest to being worth that if not more.
Bill Thomas worked very close with GM/Chevrolet as an R&D engineer. Chevy was to help market his Bill Thomas Cheetahs......and they made a prototype coupe which Chevrolet Skunked engineering for. All Bill Thomas Engines started as CE Crate combos as blocks, Partials or complete. Bill Thomas Headers and KUSTOM were the exclusive suppliers for Chevrolet....... where they made various design 302 race headers which when factory ordered did come in the trunk for customer/dealer installation, just as the Cowl Plenum Air Cleaners. Did these Headers come from the Factory in the trunk ? I think not......more likely supplied by Nickey Parts Dept .......purchased from B T R C. Maybe Stefano or someone more knowledgeable with NICKEY will chime in. Badass Car Regardless..... |
Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
That protecto plate and warranty book look way too new to me...
Love to hear the official Nickey side of the story.. |
Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
Without going into detail. Wrong shifter, fan shroud, heater box and too early to be bb. Therefore if pop shows bb then yes it is fake. Seeing how he mentioned he bought 7 years ago he may have been dooped by previous owner.

I had that thought too--that he loves his car and believes the story he was told. |
Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
I have heard about this Camaro and seen pictures of it prior, but have never inspected the car or the docs. It is not included in the Nickey Registry.
While it has many "issues" and inconsistencies. I do not know if it is authentic or not at this point. The NCRS data report would be a good place to start. The Nickey advertising document is NOT consistent with other original Nickey documentation we have in our archives for early 1967. You can obtain an authentic POP blank, which is stamped with the original vintage machine, as well as vintage tape, affixed to a vintage NOS blank booklet. I don't know if this one is authentic or not, but the data regarding the original owner and the car, might provide some immediate clues. The Sears Story holds no water as Nickey had direct relationships with suppliers and even had their own wheels made. They had no reason to buy them at a retail store. Also the Nickey logo in the center cap was not used in 1967 so that is not authentic. The Nickey crest grill emblem is not authentic. The tail panel Nickey Crest emblem sticker is a modern rendition. The Nickey fender emblems appear to be attached with two sided tape, which would more than likely make them modern. We have never seen a vintage Nickey with a metal tail panel emblem, they were generally used on the side of the cowl hoods or front fenders as the crest sticker was generally used on the rear of the car. The stinger hood in not consistent of what would have been used on an early Nickey Camaro. The data provided regarding the total number of L89 Conversions produced is not accurate. Nickey cars built in Chicago would also not have any reason to have Bill Thomas stickers added to them. The Stickers on the headers are not authentic and Nickey Chevrolet had no issues installing headers on your Super Car prior to delivery in 1967, if they wre available. |

"and the F41 suspension, so it has the rear sway bar"
I hate to pile on, but this is how misinformation gets out there. |
Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
The header value as I stated earlier about being Bill Thomas "original /NOS" depends on just that.....
"REAL ONES" not Reproduction ones. NO , I have never seen Headers with Decals ...only welded ID plates, inscribed Header Flanges or ID/part #'s on the Collectors.. I sold an Original Pair of NOS '69 Kustom headers SBC, years ago for big money. And a very lightly used pair of first gen Bill Thomas Headers about 9 years ago..... My thoughts of 7 year ownership... was also skeptical about the integrity of all that was said..... But like most everyone here,,,,, I know Nothing about it. "Believe 1/2 of what you see AND NONE of WHAT YOU HEAR" as No ASS umption can be ass U ME.d |

Stories become facts of believe if told long enough and if the audience is being entertained as if its Gospel.. With respect to the this site and the membership.... Most people that have a quote, rare 1 of .....something , or carries a "name" to it..... Don't know their A** from a Hole in the ground..... About the Car, ....as.....they "Bought a car & a Story..... I listen to people talk of cars and parts like they were there 40-45 years ago....and swear its the truth , when in fact they're repeating what Pete repeated to Re Pete.......ugggghh |
Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
WOW!!! I'd like to find out where that guy got the car and the story (and for how much). And the P-O-P does indeed look very new.

Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
most of the POP's come out of Texas...
From a Vendor with 40 years being a HEMMINGS advertiser. $35 per Character on NOS Plates, tape & machine. X 65-80 characters adds up quick. And some people question $500-$1,000 for the real one a previous owner has for Their Car..... |

Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
I also would like to know the story on this one.
The pop has to be fake the engine code shows EI. There is one site showing EI to be 396/350hp and with the window sticker showing L78 opt for an early car, they both must be fake. So I'm inclined to think the Nickey paper work would be also. |

Plus, those center caps look like recent shallow type caps--not as tall as originals. Unless my eyes deceive me. |
Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
Restoration detail makes it look like a model car.

Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
Back in the late '80s, there was a parts vendor that I did some business with that had the machine, thousands of blanks and plenty of tape. (Definitely not in Texas). At that time he was getting $275.00 a card. We joked that he probably wouldn't be selling many of the POPs because nobody would be faking any of the lower dollar cars like small block Pace Cars (which I owned at that time but wanted NO parts of having docs or a POP made) and small block SS models. We were laughing and saying there will be more L89s, LS6s, and Z/28s than Chevrolet ever made!

Re: My Classic Car - 67 Nickey Camaro L89 427....
There's so much wrong with that car, I don't even know where to start. It would be like classifying "Lord Of The Rings" as a factual historical documentary.

... Is that an AACA Junior and AACA Senior award on the front grille ? |
