Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
Nice! Factory L72?
I'm glad this one appears to be RPO Marina Blue and not a special paint code. We've had enough fun with special paint for the month! |
Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
Love it!
|
Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
Wow! It's even got the L72 idler pulley that was usually 'ditched' when new.
|
Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
Now that one is going to be a nice one!
|
Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
Very cool indeed
|
Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
The more I see those BB motors with the painted valve covers, aluminum intake and dual snorkel the more I like them. It is a nice change from the all the other L72 and L78 cars...very nice

Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
What was the purpose of the idler pulley on these cars?
|
Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
probabaly for adjusting tension on the belt for the water pump.
|
Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
Nice Sam Have you been out lately ?

Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
It's been referred to as the "flee the scene" belt so your water pump keeps turning after you toss the alternator belt. There's nothing worse than being on the side of the road after a street race putting the alternator belt back on when Buford T. Justice rolls up behind you.

Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
So what keeps the idler belt from getting tossed just like the alternator belt?

The large pulley on it along with the fact that it's closer location to the water pump doesn't have the same large span as the long floppy alternator belt has. Shorter belts tend to stay more stable. |
Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
Mikey,
Haven't been back lately (since I imported my honey last fall). Don keeps me posted on his projects. He sent me a bunch of chassis assembly photos which I misplaced. I'll ask him to forward those and I'll post them here.... talk about car porn!!!!! |

Re: '66 427 Biscayne - Don Breen
Hi Don, I'm the new guy here, engine builder.
Just a question, did you or your engine builder remember to groove the rear cam journal? Assuming you have the original block in the program it needs that groove. (Add) Excellent build choice, looks really sharp. Kind of like those full-sized rides for a change of pace. Thanks, Gary in N.Y. P.S. We are heavy into doing the engines for a local resto shop, we do all his builds and they all get dynoed beforehand, makes for no issues after the install. |
