why is it called Daytona Yellow?
because of the yellow caution flag? Modern LeMans and Daytona Rolex 24 Vettes are yellow and lack livery I understand, but in the 60s I'm not familiar with yellow being a racing livery for Chevrolet. Any insight?

Re: why is it called Daytona Yellow?
Most of the Corvette colors were named after race tracks, Sebring Silver, Daytona Yellow, LeMans Blue, etc...BKH

Re: why is it called Daytona Yellow?
Well, I think the 2013-15 Camaros are closer to Daytona Yellow of '69. Mine here is a 2011. Can you tell I love yellow too? Nice pic Charlie! Gonna sell next spring; haven't had the cover off in two years. Time for someone else to be the caretaker. You could have yellow twins!

Re: why is it called Daytona Yellow?
In the past I had a show quality 67' Goodwood Green (white stinger) 427 Corvette coupe. I bought my wife a nice yellow 73' Corvette to keep her out of the 67'. I thought the car was cool -- she said the yellow had to go ... so I repainted it a Cadillac Maroon Firemist. Can't win em' all ... TAZ

I sure am glad she didn't want it painted the Lilac color ... LOL |
Re: why is it called Daytona Yellow?
Please correct me if I'm wrong. I thought I read a few years ago now from some Camaro color chart that in 1969 yellow paint on a Camaro or Chevelle SS was called Daytona Yellow, while orange paint was called Hugger Orange on the Camaro, but Monaco Orange on the Chevelle SS. Monaco being another (street) race track.

Re: why is it called Daytona Yellow?
my 69 RS/SS 396 Convert is a Factory Daytona Yellow white interior white top car.i don't think i would have purchased it if it was the factory color.
currently black with red gut. but, if i repainted it......... |
Re: why is it called Daytona Yellow?
I never was in to that color until I acquired my Chevelle and it really grew on me and I love it now!! It is really a cool shade of yellow...

Re: why is it called Daytona Yellow?
I like it, Daytona Yellow , better now than ever "when painted in the correct lacquer hue with that touch of pastel";
I've seen many newer Base Coat /Clear that just doesn't hit the mark. The factory lacquer mix starts with the Clear binder and is tinted from there..... Same with Hugger/Monaco Orange......it gives that Deep Color Depth that appears clear coated, but its All Color ! |
Re: why is it called Daytona Yellow?
Just google "1969 Nova ss yellow" to see my Daytona Yellow Nova. Its the one that appears on the top left
