Drippers?
Looking at valve covers for a '69 SS 396 Chevelle. Should I buy with or without drippers?

Depends on if it has Solid or Hyrdraulic lifters.

I'm not a big fan of buying NOS stuff for internal components, unless there is a real need (i.e correct cam) because nobody but you will ever know. As for VC drippers, I'd look for them but would go crazy finding them. Re pops are tooooo shiney but I also see nice ones around. My .02.

BBC Tin drippers whether chrome or painted are noticeably different than non drippers.
The spot welds show up quite easily on the tops. SBC Z/28 & LT1 Aluminium repros & NOS covers are polished instead of "Natural cast" which can be easily dulled with 3M Scotch brite pads.. The fine white ones , slightly used, are the best choice. Off track here but useful info is: Any stock or semi-stock 302 benefits with the use of Drippers whether using 0 stamped or steel roller tip rockers.....as the oil splash is diverted to the Ball, stud nut area for constant lubrication. As most early 302's suffered Rocker arm failure, valve tip, lifter and lobe issues for lack of lubrication. I'm not a fan of " I gotta have non-drippers" mentality...... you can't see the Drippers that are a huge benefit. Give me a Late '69 set or 70 style LT1 drippers for a solid lifter 302 any day. |

The 69 non dropper covers have external differences also.

I have an NOS set. Holley - M/T from '71 along with using Harland Sharp Roller Rockers. Crane Cams back in the mid-late 60's Contracted with H S to develop there brand of Gold Roller tips. Harland Sharp was the Manf/supplier As for stock style....I referred to using drippers.for any 302 or suedo eng. for the extra lube. |
