Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
If I am not mistaken I have seen this car years ago when Matt owned it.. Maybe at the Camaro Nationals in Gatlinburg or Indy..??..

Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
Yes that is matt murphy's old car and that trim tag is original to the car
|
Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
I have recall the car in 1992 when it was a recent acquisition for Matt. The car is the real deal.

Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
So, seeing it in 1992 makes it "real deal"?
|
Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
Not casting ANY dispersion on this great car & Larry's is obviously very knowledgeable. At $270k, however, cars need to stand on a firm foundation of pedigree IMO.
From what I can see: 1. Factory/dealer paperwork - we have a letter from the delivering dealer with a "my memory" caveat about 375 hp. 2. ownership history - great 3. Inspection certification - ? Again, as these cars get more valuable - they need every base covered IMO. Why not get the stamps certified? Just my 2 cents! BTW - I love this car! |

Yes I spent several hours examining the car when it was first found in person. Have you ever looked at the car yourself? |
Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
Did the car have its untouched, GM installed, born-with drive train bolted to it when you inspected it back in 1992?
|
Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
I haven't seen the car myself Phil. I was just commenting that IMO these rare cars need lots of pedigree to bring all of the $$. Have you seen BB cars as late as 04C with 4P on the TT? Maybe one of the CRG guys could chime in on the approximate 4P/BB cut off date. When you looked at the stamps - did you determine that they were factory - as in "real deal"?

</div></div> Donno... On or about the date the car was built at Norwood I was learning to boot my Camaro peddle car down the driveway at home as a three year old so technically speaking I was not there to see the engine installed on the chassis side.... As to the engine, why not ask Larry C.? He likely had the heads off the block when he did the car. http://www.camaropacecars.com/Member...rphy/index.htm |
Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
Hahaha - so - I take it that you reached no conclusion about the stamps/assembly dates/casting dates based on your 3 hour inspection of the "real deal"? Just to show you what an old geezer I am - I was likely at Tonawanda MCP when the engine was produced. I have no clear recollection of this particular assembly though - LOL

Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
No conclusion that I would bet the bank on. Especially when the car is for sale at the number it is at.
Not in the vehicle certification business. |
Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
By the way you declared the car "real deal" I figured you were in the certification business...LOL
So the car is a "real deal" L78 pace car with numbers matching drivetrain which may or may not be the born-with drivetrain. Either way, its a nice looking Camaro. |

Its funny you mentioned the 4P cause I can remember seeing it back then and wondering how it was possible but didnt give it much thought due to not knowing the cut-off.. I want to say its around the Jan-Feb time frame now with the compiled knowledge... Im sure Kurt or William or another will chime in with better timing.. |
Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
CRG states that the first L-78 cars were built up in 4P bodies.

Trim tag off the orig. # 1 Pace Car. Was a L78 car. That car and the backup car were the first L78's in a Camaro. At least no earlier one has been found. |
Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
that a whole month of production apart from a 4c car(( from a 03c). its a nice article on the car but it doesn't document anything. it not a serial number car.
|
Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
Seeing it had a 427 CE block in it years ago, unlikely to be the original engine.
|
Re: 67 pace car 396-375 on ebay
SAE horsepower shown on the MSO seems to be 51.2 and that is not right for a 396. Just sayin...
