69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
Are there any 69 Camaro repro endura bumpers and/or bumper brackets that are reasonably well made and can be fit up without major hassles? Is there more than one manufacturer of these or does everyone sell the same stuff?

Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
Heartbeat City maybe.

Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
Heartbeat bumper brackets can work on original bumpers. Re-pro VE3s require a lot of work at both ends. The re-pros all look the same, so I'm assuming that they are the same manufacturer.

Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
I second what Bruce said... Ive used repo brackets and bumpers also... the brackets work..the bumpers always need some serious 'reworking'....
since we are on the subject, I have a really mint GM bumper that is ever so slightly tweaked...anyone have any luck repairing them ? |
Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
What type of "reworking" do the bumpers need specifically? Heartbeat City claims his repro bumpers are made in USA...has anyone actually used one of his? I'm guessing most repro endura bumpers are made overseas?

Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
I think I have a good bumper without brackets. What is it worth these days ?
|
Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
Probably more than I can afford unfortunately. That's why I was looking at repros.

Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
Joe, maybe Dave Valentin (luv2sixty9) can help you out.
|
Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
Joe - the re-pros stick out too far on the ends, and the contour of the ends isn't the same as the "pocket" in the fender that they are supposed to seat into. There was a guy over on TC that reworked a repro & it looked good.

Sounds like I should probably wait until I can afford a GM one. Charley, PM me if you decide on a price you'd take for yours. Thanks everyone for the input!

Perhaps there is more than one repop out there. I compared a repop bumper side by side with a real one. Not much difference. The inner brackets that came with the OER bumper however, make it virtually impossible to install. IIRC, the outers were OK. An acquaintance told me he installed a repop bumper with original brackets, and it fit much better. Heartbeat Jimmy does sell some nice repop brackets. I have a set of brackets (not for sale) as well as a pair of crappy repop brackets that I modified to match the contour of the originals. One more thing: if you get an OER brand, it will have a boat load of silicone or some kind of slimy substance on it, and you will spend a LOT of time wiping it down with degreaser just to make sure paint sticks. |

Probably more than one repop bumper bracket Lynn. I used HBC & the only alteration was that I whacked the hex head nuts off in favor of stock looking square ones. NOS VE3 bumper bolted up great

Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
I agree, there are more than one.
The ones that came with the OER bumper are way different than the HBC brackets. |
Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
Lynn, you say the OER repop bumper looked much like the original, and the HBC brackets looked much like original brackets... so would it be safe to say the using an OER bumper with HBC brackets could possibly work without too much headache? I hear a lot about HBC having better brackets than anyone else, has anyone used his repro bumper? Are OER endura bumpers made in the USA?

Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
I like HBC's repro parts. Better than most I would say.

Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
Joe:
I wish I could tell you for sure. I did not try this myself. I wish I had just to see. I found a smoking hot deal on a real bumper and sold the OER. They guy I sold it to didn't want the OER brackets, because he had been through that before. He said he was getting a pair of inners from HBC. That is the best I can tell you. I did have the OER when I got the other one and laid them out side by side. Doofus me didn't take pictures.... and I did not take precise measurements. To the naked eye it looked pretty close. Brackets were WAAAAAY OFF though. I could tell there was no way those inner brackets would work. I have not held the hbc brackets in hand, but from the pics, they look close. Bergy used them on his NOS bumper, and said they fit fine. Just for fun, I modified the oer brackets to see if I could get the angles to match up. I packed all the brackets when we moved, but may be able to locate them if you need pics. |

Some of Jim's parts are definitely the best repop available. The brackets are a good example. Apparently no one else has correct ones. However, you never know. I have bought some of his stuff advertised as the "best" and it arrived in Classic or other vendor packaging. |
Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
Heartbeat has original brackets also for sale.

Some good comparison details here:

Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
Guess that first thread on CRG give Joe his answer.
No repro bumper fits right... at least as of 2012, according to Kurt: "What's amazing is how well the original endura bumpers fit..... They've never made a good repro endura yet - they've been like that for years." How much is due to the bumper itself, and how much to the brackets? |

Re: 69 repro endura bumper/brackets.. do any fit?
In one of the CRG threads that I posted above, James (firstgenaddict) showed some excellent photos of how he worked the ends of a repro VE3 to gap it neatly to the body of the Lemans Blue car he restored.
From my research on this, the repros always need work to fit satisfactorily, and there is some variation between units from the same manufacturer; some are slightly longer than others and 'overhang' unless shortened - that's a lot more work. The cheap repro inner brackets are junk, they do not have the correct bend, and should be avoided. I've spoken to several owners who have used the HBC inner brackets; their opinion is that apart from the weld nuts, in shape they are almost impossible to distinguish from GM brackets, and so seem to work equally well with GM and repro bumpers. Used GM bumpers I've followed over the last 3 or 4 years range from ~$800 for one that has splits and rust, to $1500-2500 for a very nice ready to bolt up example. GM brackets can be $300-500 for a nice undamaged set. |
