1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
Okay guys and gals, before I get started if by posting this and I am against the forum rules please pm me and let me know. With that out of the way, I am trying to track down my fathers old car. He bought this car NEW from a Chevrolet dealership in Winter Park, Florida. This was his first big purchase after getting out of the Airforce and serving in Vietnam. After I was just a few years old, my father had to sell the car due to a financial issue with his job ( can you imagine?!). Well, fast forward a while and here I am, now 27, and my father is in his late 70's. Time is running out for him and I have been trying to find this all original car because he is so upset he had to sell it and im doing everything in my power to track down the owner to talk, maybe go and see the car with my father, or possibly buy the car back depending on the situation. ANY information that you awesome car enthusiasts have on possibly seeing this car somewhere or even knowing the owner in a certain way would be greatly appreciated. I would love to be with my father again with his dream car that he had to sell before its too late. I hope yall understand and dont hate me for trying to use resources!
Info on the car- The car is NOT a Yenko car. The car is a LOW mileage car, probably 20,000 ish miles. The car is 100 percent Original. I do have the VIN number as well as engine number, transmission number and the rear axle number. As well as photos of the car when he had it! The car is a 1970 Chevrolet NOVA SS 396 bored over to a 402 from the factory but the cars emblems are 396 ( which was original) Fathom blue on factory rally wheels, blue interior ( i believe vinyl but could be leather) Deluxe trim package. The car could have a different breather set up now, but when it sold it had a Z28 cow plentum breather. Please feel free to email me with any information regarding my fathers car.. the original owner who bought her new from the dealership. Just as a ending comment, I have contacted a few different owners of the car, but have hit a wall. the last person that i know of that had or might still have this car is a gentleman named Dick Hubbard out of Scottsdale, Arizona, but i do not have a way to contact him and I dont know if he still has the car. Thanks in advance for any information and please contact me with questions or info. |

Did he buy it from Holler Chevrolet because they are still in business down there today all those years and well before that.

Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
Thank you guys for the kind words I hope this post will bring me upon something. The car even had a spread in Super Chevy magazine! Which we still have that magazine with the shoot ! This is super important and sentimental to me and our family!
It was not that dealership, it was Jim Wrathman (sp?) Chevrolet |

Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
Yes that is him. The gentleman that sold him the car said he's not sure if he has it or not but he did say that those guys are extremely hard to get ahold of on things like this. He gave me a number to I belive his son which lives in Indiana and I left a voicemail a few weeks ago and have not heard back. So now I am here.. hopefully something happens. Thanks so far guys.

Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
Cheers to that! I miss it. I grew up being inside the car while he worked on it! The kind of more rare thing about the car was the pinstripe that was painted on factory. Alot of Novas do not have that from the research I've done.

Do you have paperwork showing this from the factory? |
Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
I'm pretty sure my father gave the buyer all the paperwork.. but I do know that either my father requested it upon pick up or the car came with it. It's painted on i know that for sure and it wasn't added after purchase. Left the dealership that way. I hope this helps!

Love Fathom Blue with pinstripe. These photos are from 1970 the day this car was driven home from the dealership.

Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
Beautiful car right?! I would upload some photos as well but my phone I guess does not work well with this site and won't allow me to post them.

Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
Not sure if it matters, but I talked to my father today and in regards to the pinstripe, it was factory. Was not added. Came from the dealer with the stripe painted on.
|
Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
So did the factory paint it on & ship it to the dealership,or did the dealership do it once they took delivery from the factory?
..and how much extra cost was it? |
Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
I've been around cars my whole life along with working in the new and used car industry for decades......
Dealer painted on pinstripes was and is still quite common. Most any dealer would pinstripe, cut in & paint white walls. Redlines, Bluelines, Goldlines. Dealer dress up is as old as the first ever car sold. Just a thought......for conversation. |
Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
From what my father says it came from the factory painted on.
|
Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
looks pretty much loaded up with exterior options from what I can see
|
Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
60's camaro's came with factory painted pin stripes so why would nova be any different.

Looks like it was indeed factory applied & included when RPO ZJ-2 custom exterior was ordered.
Known as Body-side paint stripe, available in black or white. I've honestly never noticed it before. |
Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
Never said a Nova didn't have factory stripes
I gave an alternative insight as why IT COULD HAVE a painted on pinstripe..... Just like ANY OTHER CAR......REGARDLESS OF YEAR, MAKE , MODEL..... |
Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
I like it!
|
Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
Yeah guys the stripe was white and looks great! I have a bunch of pictures of the car but can't upload them here.

Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
My original 70 Forest Green L78 had the pinstripes with the rocker moldings and window trim. FYI: the 69 Novas had pinstripes also but they were lower down on the body.

Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
Hopefully I can find some info on the owner at some point. I've posted about every fact I can about the car! Any ideas on what that cars worth would be today? 100 percent original?

Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
The pin stripe is shown in the assembly manual as the ZJ2 option...

Re: 1970 CHEVROLET NOVA 396 SS FATHOM BLUE ALL ORGNL
Well either way guys I'm not fixated on the pinstripe.. or all the options and whatnot. I'm just trying to find my dad's old car. I've listed all the specs I have to help.. that's the main reason I created this thread. Thanks
