'69 Yenko Auction
Just received an e-mail from Mecum with their feature car in next month's auction, a '69 HO Yenko Camaro. Does anyone here know the car/owner/history? An X-66 car, #579518 sold out of Joseph Chevrolet, Cincinnati, OH.

Re: '69 Yenko Auction
I believe that is the car that came out of the Cincinnati area in the early '90s, went to Minn, that owner was tragically killed in a snowmobile accident, went to Texas, Ron Vorhees who later died at a young age, may have been owned by Steve Sandlin who later sold it. Not a very good history for the owners of this car as a whole. William on the site will remember the car as having a roll cage in the early '80s.

Re: '69 Yenko Auction
It sounds possessed........

Re: '69 Yenko Auction
Yes, that is Ron Vorhees' old car.

Re: '69 Yenko Auction
The car was owned by Mark MaCartney in the 80s. Real good car then... Then my friend Ron had it, then Steve Sadlin. Finally Irwin Kros had it last I new...BKH

Re: '69 Yenko Auction
I do.
Fellow pack rats can check out the color feature in the December 1982 Super Chevy magazine page 46. In the photos it has the roll bar, NK1 wheel, no tach, super shifter, kick panel speakers, Yenko emblem on the dash, rally wheels w/G70 Polyglas, line lock[?], headers. Has the '67 Corvette-style '427' badges. |
Re: '69 Yenko Auction
This car was on display at the Mecum Indy auction last weekend. I'll post some pictures of it when I get a chance. I believe I saw this car at Super Chevy Indy in 1982. It was one of several Yenkos there that year.

Re: '69 Yenko Auction
alot of those cincinnati yenkos were street racers. Mr 702 would tell me 3 or 4 of them would be seen in frishes in NCH on a friday nite, a miles or 2 from joseph chevrolet.

Beautiful car ... But ... Is the rubber on the cowl induction installed correctly? |
Re: '69 Yenko Auction
Irwin had Harris restore that car in 06. It was a very clean car to refurnish.

Re: '69 Yenko Auction
Can anyone verify if this is an original drivetrain car?
|
Re: '69 Yenko Auction
Steve,
Back in '90 or so when Bob in Ohio had the car I got drivetrain #s as T0104MN, P9T12B, BE1119. Believed to be original but I don't know of anyone who has verified the drivetrain originality. |
Re: '69 Yenko Auction
Thanks.
|
Re: '69 Yenko Auction
If this was the car Irwin Kros had I believe it was last restored by Corvette Country.
|
Re: '69 Yenko Auction
That would be the only 0104MN in the data base - anyone else have 0104MN assembly date on an OE?
|
Re: '69 Yenko Auction
Yenko Camaro N579776 I have as T0104MN also.
|
Re: '69 Yenko Auction
OK - Thanks

Re: '69 Yenko Auction
Car was definitely restored by Bob Harris of Camaro Specialties while I worked there in '06. Irwin took his Corvettes elsewhere. I have a few pics of this car being assembled on my home computer. Unfortunately none of the stampings or dates, as of then I did not care about that stuff, just thought it was a pretty cool car. Bob would be the person to contact regarding any details pertaining to this car.

Re: '69 Yenko Auction
... I would think the auction listing would have noted that it was <span style="font-weight: bold">"original"</span> drivetrain ( if it was ) ... rather then stating it this way... "The drivetrain, composed of the L72 427/425 HP big block, Muncie M21 4-speed manual transmission and 12-bolt 4.10:1 Positraction rear end, <span style="font-weight: bold">uses correct date-coded components throughout</span>, including the A.I.R. (Air Injection Reactor) smog control system." ... |

Re: '69 Yenko Auction
Thanks & Yikes!
|
Re: '69 Yenko Auction
sounds like a good price
|
Re: '69 Yenko Auction
When you see a Hi Bid No Sale or the Bid goes on at Mecum it can be a "Ghost Bid" from the Auction / Auctioneer. trying to "Get Close" to the reserve and or "fishing for a Real Bid" ,,,,, as the Auction has the right to bid towards "Reserve" price.
Some of those 'the Bid goes on' actually Never had Real Bid..... Its also a way for the Seller to have his Car Appraised , testing the waters of the market. |
Re: '69 Yenko Auction
Here it is again .... Hugger Orange 1969 Yenko .... after auction. .... Looks pretty nice |

I would suggest you talk to Jerry MacNeish, I believe he has inspected the car. |
