1968 Camaro deluxe wheel question...
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...n30early_s.jpg
https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8n30late_s.jpg Does anyone have an answer to the two distinct N30 wheels used in 1968. One wheel has the small grooves higher on the wheel and end @ an inch higher than the shroud. The other style end even with the shroud. Is this an early/ late thing? Thanks, BKH |
Re: 1968 Camaro deluxe wheel question...
Never noticed there was 2 versions... Interested to hear the answer myself!

Re: 1968 Camaro deluxe wheel question...
I've been looking at several 68 publications and dealer stuff only to find the "top" wheel shown. I have some pics of a early 68 SS showing the same wheel and early painted shroud. I too would assume early and late versions. Lets get some build dates together and see where they fall.

Re: 1968 Camaro deluxe wheel question...
My 01C LOS 68 Camaro has the marks even with the shroud. Can't say 100% that it's the original wheel since the car has been through a lot of abuse but the patina matches the rest of the car.
I also have a spare wheel I bought with the marks above the shroud. |

Re: 1968 Camaro deluxe wheel question...
I have 10 of these steering wheels that are in pretty rough condition. Of the 10, 3 have the grooves that end above the shroud. I haven't looked but I don't think there are any date codes on any of these steering wheels.

Re: 1968 Camaro deluxe wheel question...
I did a bit of digging thru my photos and found some real pics w/ docs to back them up as far as dates.
1968 SS/RS 350 09D - I have pics of the TT but they are not clear enough in the scans...you can barely make out the line on the wheel, it is above the horn bar. Also note the paint on this wheel is the first design w/ blackout. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics..._ss_rs_350.jpg 1968 March build 327 14K mi Marve Minneman https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics..._wheel_327.jpg Camaro order form https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...order_form.jpg March 1968 SS-427 Don'S Brooklyn Chevrolet 7K mi. -unrestored https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...eel_ss_427.jpg POP for SS-427 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ss_427_pop.jpg Still looking thru hard photos for better documented 68's.......... Another 68 2, don't have a TT pic...but this car was period. Started as a 96 and got a SBC transplant very early on... Wheel is second run w/ bar and grooves even.
