67 W023 Coronet
So are the W023 Coronets desirable? window sticker, build sheet, automatic, one owner, original Hemi missing in action. if I purchase original paint no rust will not be restored I am thinking it needs a vintage correct engine however.
|
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
They aren't chopped liver but as Super Stock Mopars go, they're kind of the odd man out. Still desirable, though.
|
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
One of the best to ask is Scott Smith as he is rather knowledgeable about them. Lots of guys looking for an original paint car to see how they were assembled. I know Joel Nystrom had been looking for detail shots.
|
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
As I recall, all were white, autos and 10.25 CR Hemi's. I think they look tuff.
|
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
There were 4-speeds too. Automatics had a reverse valve body.
All were 440 hardtops or, on the Plymouth side, Belvedere II hardtops. I have Scott's email if you need. |
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
Thanks for the information guys, it is white/black interior automatic I do understand there were some 4 speed cars. Where do you look for a vintage 66 date coded 426 motor?
|
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
Roy - The good news is there were no stamped engine/trans VIN's yet....that started in the 68 model year.....so technically it wont be "matching" but it wont be wrong either. '66 street hemi production was, I think the highest and a lot of the Hemi's floating around for sale are of that vintage.
|
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
What's the build date on the car? I assume you're talking Sept-Dec '66 date coded engines?
|
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
Hemi engines can have a wide casting date to factory install date time line. You'll want an expert to give you an appropriate period of time before you purchase your engine. If you have a long period of time for what would be considered an appropriate casting date vs. the build date of your car, this could give you more options and may save you money.

Re: 67 W023 Coronet
They only made 55 WO23 Dodge Coronets, all of them were white. Most were Torqueflite cars (16 4-speeds I think)

Joel is Hemi_Joel on www.moparts.com if the OP is interested in contacting him. Joel is a cool guy to talk to so give him a try. I think he has (or had) a RO or WO car himself. His email is |

Re: 67 W023 Coronet
OK car is at the shop, records indicate it was shipped April 6, 1067, sold new at Grand Spaulding Auto. So what date range engine should I be looking for? last six of VIN 201088
|
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
"Grand Spaulding" eh?! That is good provenance. Maybe you should check with Mr. Norm and see if he sponsored it or knows its legacy. Congrats! How about a few photos?
|
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
I seem to remember that packets of information can be purchased from Mr. Norm or someone he could get you in contact with on many cars that passed through that dealership.

Re: 67 W023 Coronet
Unfortunately - Nothing older than 69 G-S Dodge paperwork is available. There was a fire in '68 that destroyed all that paper.
As far as block casting dates.....here is an excerpt on that.... Based on our research 1967 Hemi cars should have either left over 1965 cast or 1966 cast block. However, this is not an absolute however we have not seen a documented 1967 Hemi with an engine casting other then 1966. There were no 1967 HEMI blocks cast. The latest 1966 block that we have run across is 10-31-66 |

I had been told that I needed 65 or 66 casting dates from a good friend, not knowing anything about MOPAR casting date timing I wanted to confirm that, thanks.

Amazing car and paperwork. Congrats Roy.

Re: 67 W023 Coronet
Very cool Roy.
Couldn't happen for a nicer guy. I am not a Mopar guy, but really like this car. Heater delete and remote mirror? What are the chances? I think I need to make a trip to Tulsa soon!!!!! |
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
I appreciate all of the kind words guys. It's strange how these things happen. Have all the projects I need with my 32 Vicky currently apart and a new (old) blown flat head being built for it.
I am attracted to original cars, in particular cars that exhibit something most do not have. This old MOPAR with original paint and no serious rust anywhere was just more than I could pass up. Original trunk area is almost perfect, rear mat, battery area and hold down along with jack and original spare that has never been on the ground, just seems like icing on the cake. Interior needs a little work and at some point the original owner liked rattle can paint but a little tender attention will solve most of the issues. Believe I have found a engine, will be inspecting it soon, if it turns out to be as complete as I am told it is, there will be another engine being built at my shop. |
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
32 Vicky with a blown flathead? Need to know more about this one, too!

Bought from the second owner of 52 years, who purchased it from his Dad, not hardly a muscle car, just an original all steel uncut 32 Ford Vicky, that is having a Blown Ardun head flattie built, by Don Ferguson in California. I'll attach a family portrait with it. If it has four wheels there is a chance I'm all in. You guys might think this is a sacrilege I'm pulling a 360 mopar out of it. |
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
Was that wear white day or what ?
|
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
LOL. For what it's worth, Roy, you guys look OK in white.
I am one of four boys. In the 80's we did a portrait of all four of us to give my parents. Did the same thing in the late 90's. On the second one, my artsy brother (who had done some professional photography) insisted we all wear white mock turtlenecks. Told us it would be "timeless" and "classic" looking. I still hate it almost 20 years later. Looks like a freakin milk man convention. |
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
Beautiful Vicky...I love them...what a classic hot rod! You better share after the blown flathead gets installed

Classic, vintage flat head for a 360? No brainer! Keep us posted on your progress.

Yep, photographer said wear white, so we did. |
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
I have an original 4-speed WO, and have had another auto and a RO/Belvedere. I'm not into original, though.

Re: 67 W023 Coronet
Michael - Welcome aboard. Would love to see a photo or two of your original 4 speed WO.

Re: 67 W023 Coronet
Thanks, Merry Christmas!! This was really used up, and I built the racecar out of it. I didn't have the heart to cut up the really nice one. That one just recently sold at auction.

Verty nice. Some cool iron there. Love the WO hood scoops. One of the best! Thanks!

Re: 67 W023 Coronet
The fact that its a Mr. Norm's Grand Spaulding Dodge is a big plus, IMO.
Did you check the dealer file with Larry? |
Re: 67 W023 Coronet
Nope, had no idea. I called Norm Krause back around 2000. The call was for some info on the possible history on my car, as it was rumored to have been from around Chiraq. When I asked him about the 67 S/S cars and if he was the possible dealer of my car....he told me there was never any such car as a 67 WO23J, and if there was...he would have sold all of them. I was standing between both of mine at the time....and was dumb-founded. We argued for a bit, then I figured he was an idiot, and continued with my projects. I found out who originally owned my car, about 2008-09. I've talked with Jack a couple times. He informed me it was his favorite factory racecar. I'd like more history[from new], but didn't really know where to look.
