Day 2 Question
I'm going to start the process of converting my '68 Z/28 from Resto Mod to Day 2.
I have an idea of what I'm going to do with rims, air cleaner, traction bars. etc.. My question is hoses. The car has the braded hoses with the red and blue fittings. I'm guessing this is not Day 2 and rubber hoses are the correct look? One other question, is there a big difference in the Cragars that are new vs. the period correct? This is a street car so if it's not perfect, I will be ok. Just trying to get close. Thanks, Jason |
Re: Day 2 Question
Stainless steel braided hose was around in the early 70's on street cars but not common.
Trend took of around 1977-1978 when Earls and Aeroquip among other co's started adverstising in CC, PHR and Hot Rod |

Re: Day 2 Question
Got any pics of your car now?
I've got an old '68 Camaro as well that is totally Day 2 or 3, but needs new rims (has A/R 16 Torque Thrusts) that eventually need changed. I like these '68s a lot: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...-mm_68_cam.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...lver_68_ss.jpg |
Re: Day 2 Question
Thanks guys.
Yes, that's the look I'm going for. Yes, here's a few pics. I like the fly eye air cleaner and I want some old school M/T valve covers https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-img_1060.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...0-img_1061.jpg https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...1-img_1062.jpg |
Re: Day 2 Question
What size are your current AR wheels?
I'm aiming for a set of Cragar S/S wheels, but eventually I will totally have a set of aluminum slots like the ones above because the more I see of them, the more they just "fit" the car. |
Re: Day 2 Question
Hi Mark,
16"'s 8" in the front and 9" in the rear I believe. Going with Cragar but I'm not sure what size. Like the look of both your cars. |
Re: Day 2 Question
Your wheels are exactly the same as the ones on my car:

Thanks, Jason </div></div> Yes, there is a difference from the older Cragars to the newer Cragars......the spokes are flatter, not as round/curved as the older ones. Kurt |

Re: Day 2 Question
Gotta do the Cragars. IMO, (I know) some of the day 2 stuff never left; kinda like penny loafers. I've always liked '60-'70s drag-inspired street cars LONG before today's popularity. Not a big fan of the side-pipe headers, or any side exhaust for that matter, and some rear tires stick out too far. I really dig the late '69 early '70 Pro Stock/Super Stock look where the car still started life as a production model and resembled such. The black '68 is damn near perfect in the looks dept. As for the "Mid Life" and this thread's original poster, not a whole lot to do on either car. Wheels, some under hood changes and VOILA!!! Back to Woodstock!!!

Re: Day 2 Question
I love that silver '68 with the slots someone posted above. Mark - those would look great on your new Camaro! I never did care for the centerline 500 wheels that you say it wore back in the early 1980s.

What size wheel should be used? Maybe this is a dumb question but I would like to get that look for my build, looks assume!!! Thanks |

Thanks </div></div> Those are 15 x10 Cragars with 3.75 BS and N50 tires 11/3/4-12" wide 27.50-28 tall depending on tire brand. G60-15 max rim would be 8" wide and I think those tires are 26" tall. Silver camaro = 15 x 8.50 with L60-15's>28" tall IMO g60's are just too small for 67-69 Camaros. |
Re: Day 2 Question
Thanks for reply, I should state that my build is not a camaro...I like the sidewall profile on the Camaro pictured was just trying to get that same look with the G60's as that's about the max tire size for my car. Thanks
|
Re: Day 2 Question
If you want the sidewalls to bulge, put the G60s on a narrow rim (no wider than 6-7".
|
Re: Day 2 Question
Thanks much appreciated!
Anybody have any pics of a G60 on a 6" wheel? |
