SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Ok guys, we at KMST-Detroit Muscle (Mascar) are going to post often to share with you the build we are doing on the FB Deuce, we are pulling the #s drivetrain and will be replacing it with a Borg Warner T 10 and a 1970 350 4 Bolt service block with a vintage intake, carb, headers, wheels, etc. All parts are pre-1971 and will be built with the parts and technology avaialable in 1971. We are treating this as if we are back in 1971 and we blew the motor and wanted to build a street fighter with the best available parts at the time. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...vice_block.jpg

Yes the Roof, we will, after the Muscle Car Nationals, rebuild the #s motor and trans that have been pulled, touch up anything that needs addressed and return the car back to the show room stock configuration. |
Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
I see, sounds good.

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
What a cool idea. Looking forward to watching the progress!

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Don't wanna bust your chops but that intake is around 1977-1978..Scorpion intake with nitrous ports.
|
Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Deal of the century here..(not mine btw) NOS early 1970's BBC Torker.

Earlier style Torker with open fill hole up front pointing to the passenger side...later (mid 70's) Edelbrock changed the oil fill hole to point the opposite direction for the newer GM cars..that is one way you can tell the difference.
The SBC TM-1 is the most accurate for 1971 but I don't have a pic of one of those. |
Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Whitetop, when did the Edelbrock C3BX intake come out? I recently picked up one of those.

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
I agree on the Scorpion intake but I thought they started in 1974? I'm not concerned about sticking to the letter with dates. I'm just going to build, one of my old school solid lifter, ported oem iron head, small blocks. Back when I had No money and had to make whatever was laying around work. Just to go and race with you guys and have some fun.

Kurt </div></div> Right off the top of my head late 60's..I was referring to the X-type of intake the OP was planning on using. |

Way to enjoy the car!
Thanks for sharing here and at the show! Jason |

You may be correct, we purchased it on ebay and it said early vintage manifold believed to me 1970 .... oh well, too late now, Kenny has been porting on it quite a bit all good. Will keep you all posted, lots of pictures in the next few days. |
Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Sounds like a blast!
|
Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
I think that stock 2110 intake is actually a really good piece, and was what several of the aftermarket companies were actually copying back in the day....

This is going to be a blast! cant wait to get started on the car....

I agree. If you want the best small block chevy manifold technology that there was available in 1971 (that still fit under the hood) it's already on your engine. |
Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
I completely agree, On all my street motors I run dual plane manifolds. But on this project we are going old school Detroit Street Racing Style. Schoolcraft, Telegraph road, White Castle. And that means 12to1, Big Solid Camshaft, Single Plane Intake, Brazed and Epoxied ported heads, 4781 Carb. And let the clutch fly at 8000 RPMs. I want to see the Blue Deuce wake up!!

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Please swap out that original CBW rear end before you sidestep the clutch at 8000.
It would be hard to replace. Jamie |

It would be hard to replace. Jamie </div></div> X2, please do this - a CBW rear is not like a BE in that there were a few hundred COPO's in excess of the Yenko COPO's, and can be found. A CBW rear is near impossible to find. In my 19 years of this (OMG!!) I've only ever heard of one CBW rear being found, and it's only a rumor - I've not actually laid eyes on it. IMHO, it would be kinder to the Roof Deuce if these mods were performed on another, less original, less pedigreed Deuce. I'm sure we could find you a decent project Deuce to modify. Again, just MHO. |

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
The car will have a 9'' Ford in it for the Super Car Race . Complete original drive train set aside. after the race the car will be put back to original. This is only for the weekend. We understand the value of these original parts. And right after the show we are going to completely blue print the original drivetrain right back to oem specs.

Doing what they were meant to do. Cannot wait to see it action.

I agree, and after all the Roof's street raced this car hard, so I think we are doing it justice one last time before we do a mild Re-Restoration of the car. We will completely rebuild the drivetrain, which was not done and we will return the car to completely stock condition. I am also currently looking for another Non-Matching Deuce to put this drivetrain in permanently so I can create a real day 2 machine : ) to go along with my other #s matching Deuce's Cheers everyone |

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Ok guys, change of plans, for those of you that were worried we were going to use the Roof Deuce for this project, we have decided not to ........... we will, at the end of the year return the Roof Deuce to completely stock show room condition, with Kenny completely restoring the drivetrain and putting the car completely back to stock condition and mothballing the Roof Day 2 parts. We will be bringing a different Deuce : )
We have acquired an original well known, real 1970 Deuce Yenko Nova, Yellow, Automatic Car that does not have the original drivetrain. So we will put our 1970 Day 2 street race drivetrain in this newly acquired car and bringing it to SCR18! This car is rough and in need of restoration, so its perfect for us to build and race the heck out of, we will then bring it to the Muscle Car Nationals to debut the car "AS IS" with its day 2 drivetrain, and after the show, we will do a full blown restoration and finish it in Street Race Day 2 trim and bring it to the 2016 Muscle Car Nationals for debut in its new Day 2 restored glory and use it for years to come as it was meant to be, as a street racer https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...ow_deuce_3.jpg |

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Wow...cool!

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Nice, answered my own question in your other thread. That is a good solid car that is perfect for a Day 2 theme. Nicely done.

Thank you Marlin, and yes, working with Mr. Miller, great guy, we are very excited about this car, we will clean it up, build it for the SCR18 and then restore it sometime next year in a Day 2 style. And yes, I would eventually like one in each color ...... we will see over time if I can make that happen with some help from the great people here |

Re: SCR18 Deuce build Detroit Muscle
Nope! But, it actually might be a difficult color for Scott to acquire, it's the least common color found by percentage. For reference sake, existing Deuces by color:
21 = Forest Green 17 = Fathom Blue 16 = Cranberry Red 11 = Cortez Silver 8 = Gobi Beige 6 = Citrus Green 6 = Hugger Orange 5 = Sunflower Yellow 90 = Total |
