1970 Chevy Nova L 78 396 - SOLD

Real Deal 1970 L78 Nova SS, documented and original drivetrain.

Has sYc DNA : )

Very original and solid car, you decide to repaint or freshen it up.

I'm told it is mechanically strong with a recent engine rebuild, but too cold to drive it and too snowy for pictures.

Better pics coming soon.

$36,500.00 or trade.

Cool Nova, I bet it shocked a few cars at stoplights in the 70's.

A car just like this one beat me like a rented mule one time in Bensalem, PA - probably around 1987'ish. It was an Autumn Gold Nova, 396, but had big-n-little Cragars and some traction bars. I don't remember seeing a Reedman emblem on the back, but that wasn't really what I was looking at! Plus, Reedman cars were/are all over the place in Bucks County, PA.

Nice car, GLWS

Nice car, GLWS

This is probably the car Marlin. It never had a Reedman emblem on it as far as I remember.. I bought the car out of that area when the original owner died. It had a Real LS6 in it and that explains how well it ran. That motor was sold out of the car right before I got it..

Tom...Yes, that's your old car, the one I bought from you. Although my time with it was relatively short lived, I'ved enjoyed it thoroughly. Ran and drove very nicely for me last fall. Those are the white pinstripe tires and '70 L78 repop air cleaner in the pics that I mentioned to you earlier. Just bought a nice lakefront property that came along unexpectedly, gonna do some remodeling there, so decided to sell the Nova.

Re: 1970 Chevy Nova L 78 396

Pat...I was just having some fun...no doubt where that car came from. I like the look with the white lines and the air cleaner is a nice addition.

Certainly glad you enjoyed the car...I think it is a very cool sleeper and hopefully the next owner will enjoy it like you did.

Good luck with your new lake property.

Re: 1970 Chevy Nova L 78 396

The car did have a Reedman emblem...but, it came apart at some point. Not sure if it was with the car when I sold it to Pat.

By the way, the current engine setup is no slouch...it made a lot power on the dyno. That car would be dangerous with some headers, 4.10's, performance tuning and some tires to keep it glued to the ground.

Wilma

**that car was ordered with 4.10 gears...but, Chevy didn't put anything more than the 3.55's...the original salesman's notes indicated the 4.10's

Thanks Tom, was a tough decision to sell and I appreciate all the guidance you provided along the way. I really like that car, it goes like hell and is easy to drive to boot! Stefano will no doubt find her a well deserved good home. I still have the Reedman emblem, but it's in pretty bad shape. Paul's Chrome can repair it, I'll have it done and give it to the new owner. Small world, and that was a really fast car - I was running an 'all show - no go' Nova at the time with big tires, traction bars, etc with the stock 250cid 6 banger with a mono jet!

If my memory is right...the stock number is written in grease pen inside the driver's door...this car also has the one year only "low washer fluid" indicator!

and look at the buyer's order...salesperson is a Reedman!

Re: 1970 Chevy Nova L 78 396

Something I just noticed on the sales invoice: "SOLD AS IS".

Were Cheverolet dealers allowed to sell a new car without the original factory warranty back then? I know lots of Mopar dealers refused to honor warranties on hemi cars if you bought a four speed.

DaJudge 02-24-2015 12:28 PM

Re: 1970 Chevy Nova L 78 396

Hi Steve, the sold as is , is scribbled over. That was Reedman's universal deal sheet. Same one that my parents signed when they bought an 80 Rally Sport. H. Reedman's JR. Or Harold was the same sales person.

WILMASBOYL78 02-24-2015 01:37 PM

Re: 1970 Chevy Nova L 78 396

Most car dealerships had one buyer's order for new and used vehicles. Obviously the new cars and trucks came with the manufacturer's warranty...the dealer could not take that away. It was very common before the advent of consumer laws that used vehicles were sold as is. It is still a fact even today...laws vary by the state. There is a federal FTC requirement that all used vehicles have a "Buyer's Guide" displayed on the window...this form clearly outlines the warranty coverage that comes with the used vehicle.

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles...yers-guide.pdf

The penalties are substantial if the feds get aggressive...each year there are dealers who receive stiff fines for failing to comply.

As for this Nova...I'm sure the factory warranty was put to the test early on given the performance package under the hood

Actually, I cut my teeth on selling printing and business forms supplies to auto dealers...been involved with that arena for over 30 years. Guess I learned a few things along the way.
