A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
It's on ebay now...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Chevrolet-Camaro...=US_Cars_Trucks Not bad for paying $1700 for it in 2006. I'll bet the previous owner is kicking himself now. Here's the story of the guy who found it... http://www.camaros.net/forums/archiv...p/t-80554.html |

The guy that Dana bought it from is who I believe paid $1700 and that was 20 some years ago and ALL the money for that car at that time. Dana invested a LOT of money and research in this car in the time he has owned it. |
Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
rick is correct - resto's on these car can go from 125K to 200K depending on what you need.....add that to a substantial initial investment, plus the time to work thru a resto - and you have to wonder why we do it.....
IT is the outcome we are after mostly, not the final value - if the value works out it is a bonus..... If you have not been thru the process - you don't really understand If you can do it cheaper - then the value is cheaper unless your italian like mike angelo and he does all his own work at an amazing quality....he is one of a few. |
Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
The guy I bought it from traded a 6 cyl Mustang for it straight up in the 80's. He thought he had paid $1700. for the Mustang. Just to clarify. And yes, it was a LOT more when I bought it in 2006...
Unless I am wrong, I think all of the 68 project cars that were for sale have changed hands and are being restored. Hey Bruce, I remember the staging lanes at Russo got a little hairy in there with the other drivers. You and Holly handled it like Pro's of course. Everyday I look at this car I still marvel at the job Rick did. Incredible. |

Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
Dana that is one Beautiful , rare Camaro, and Rick did a fantastic restoration on it, I was at MCACN and watched the unveiling , I can't believe someone hasn't bought it.

Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
Thanks Mike
The best part has been bringing the car back to it's glory and meeting new people/friends along the way. With NOS parts getting harder to find it would be much more difficult to recreate that restoration today. The selling is bitter sweet, but I can't hunt down and do another car without the funds from this one. |
Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
I have seen this car on a lift and I was only a couple of inches away when I was looking it over. When you combine the quality of the work and detail done plus all the NOS and original parts used then factor in how rare the car is. I do not see how you can get much better than this car at any price.

Paint applied by Tom Scholtz had a lot to do with it as well. |
Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
I am not sure what point you are trying to make but the owner of this Yenko is a member of this site (427freak). You could PM him your concerns, contact him at his business or e-mail him through the e-bay auction that you copy and pasted to this site. Dana is a good guy and I am sure he can answer any questions you might have.

"any" questions? Sure, if that's the case, then I'd like to see the breakdown of the cost of all the work done to the car to equal a $500k Camaro..... |
Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
Very good questions now go ask the guy with the answers.

Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
I really don't see the point here? A person can ask whatever they want for a car, especially a car that they have spent the money on to restore-the market will either bear out that the price is in line or it won't.
It's nobody else's business what amount of money was spent-and on what. If you have a Yenko to get restored-contact one of the restoration folks to get a bid-or do it yourself. If you have a Yenko to sell-put it out on the market for what you think it's worth...and see what happens. |

Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
Tom, I don't know what fight you are trying to pick or why but what do receipts have to do with the value of the car. The car itself, it's heritage, how well the restoration was performed, how many were made, how many still exist, many things come into play to put a value on the car. Who are we to decide what a car is worth or not worth. The buyers set the market values not us with opinions. Would you pay $4m for the GM Futurliner? Likely not but one collector did. If you feel it is overpriced then don't buy it, quite simple. Cars are listed every day that some feel are overpriced. Some sell, some don't. You seem to post a lot of negative comments here on the boards and not sure why. Say something positive for a change, you might just be able to smile for a change.

Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
With only a handful of 68' Yenko's produced and only a handful of those done to a top level, I don't see your point at all If he gets 500K for it, so what. I have seen all kinds of people pay what seems like too much for all kind of cars, only to see that number seem like a bargain in a few years if not months later..BKH

Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
So, if he had $800K in it, would you say it's underpriced at $500K?
And, tell me one product you buy on the open market, that you think you have a right to demand proof of cost. That's simply ridiculous! |
Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
There are 1968 Yenkos which have recently traded hands within range of that Ball park and some needing total restoration have sold for less..
Great Yenko Camaro, good luck with the sale. |
Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
is there a point out there??? 500k for a car with a ghost population and that type of restoration coupled with high desiribilty ?. 500k is very fair. sooner or later they will keep heading to 7 figures. So thats my opinion . P.S i watched R.R from gas monkey pay 300K for a resto panatera at BGs. We could talk about that.??

Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
When I look back over the last 30 years, then the last 20 years, at how much the value of these cars has increased ,and now with so many more millionaires in the world each year, I am sure these cars will be worth much more in 5-6 years,

Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
15-20 years ago it was mostly enthusiasts along with some wealthy collectors and even some Multimillionaires who chased and owned Yenkos. Since then there have been numerous Multimillionaires and even several Billionaires who have entered into the arena and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Re: A Yenko Camaro for $500k?
I remember watching Barrett-Jackson back in 2005-06 and a '67 Yenko hammered for about 110K. The winner even looked a little astonished at getting the car for that price. I posted here that I thought that number was a little crazy and I got hammered for saying that. If you rolled that same car across the block today it'd be at least double the money if not triple or quadruple. You live and learn!
