Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
That is a great car!
|
Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
Not the best in the world but certainly close. I think the Classic Copper 70 Z28 1100 mile survivor was likely about as good as it gets.
|
Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
That's still a 80-100,000 car.
|
Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
Where was the car found? What area?
|
Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
The car was 20 minutes from skip in the same town where he's at. I heard about this car back at Sls in Carlisle.

Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
20,000 '69Zs built, there are almost none that have survived like this, I've been looking for 25+ years. Amazing car, nice to see an original cowl hood car too.

Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
This car should be at next years MCACN!

It was also featured in the Rare Finds section of November 2014 edition Muscle Car Review.

Assuming this car stayed in the same area for it's entire life, the rear bumper still had an “Emrich” sticker on it, a reference to the original selling dealer, Emrich Chevrolet in Manchester, Pennsylvania. This is located in York County, Pa. Sal |

Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
To me it makes no sense to compare these time capsules, they stand tall and on their own. Each car has a story to tell, and provides the hobby vital build and assembly information that enthusiast and restorer can apply.
The original owner of this car was meticulous, and saved just about everything he replaced, which is why this car is so well preserved and complete. It couldn't have gone to a better caretaker, and Skip will share and show this time capsule with all of us. The Vintage Certification team will be looking this car over in 2015...and I can't wait! |
Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
Steve, at Carlisle in June ?

Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
Someone will have to wipe my drool off this car if it shows up at Carlisle this year!

Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
Makes you wonder what else is still out there....

Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
There's lots of stuff out there. Some people like to keeps some things private from z11 cars, 1100 mile 67 427 Corvette, Unrestored LS6 Convert, and some more alumn front end un end cars. In the last few days I got to see a LS 5 convert that hasn't been out since the early 90's last week. The guy is a car guy but not a high end car guy.

Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
Lots of hidden cars. There is a Boss 429 20 minutes from me. Current owner has had it since 1974. I have never seen the car, but talked to the owner and several people that knew of the car. I found out about it at work just talking to a guy about cars. 12 minutes the other direction is a Boss 302 and a Boss 351. I did see them. They are out there

Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
Skip's Z is simply amazing! He is REAL GOOD at finding the stuff and has the "staying power" to be able to strike when the fire is hot. Finding them is one thing; finding them and being able to buy is another thing entirely. Cars like this aren't bought in just a couple of minutes, sometimes it takes YEARS. I chased a car for 6 years, got it bought, and sold it to Skip. He is a GREAT GUY and I'd venture to say that this Z/28 will probably be at SLS, and if I had to guess, I'd say MCACN, too. I saw this car right after he got it home; dirty (in a relative term), and at that time Skip hadn't started tinkering with it yet---can't wait to see it cleaned up a little. Maybe tomorrow.

Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
Within 1 mile of my house, 1. '70 Chevelle, looks like an SS. Astro Blue! Was sitting in a driveway, but pushed inside 10 years ago. Hasn't moved. Stuff piled all over it. 2. '69 Z/28, in a garage but hasn't moved in at least 10 years. Also stuff piled all over it. 3. some kind of drag car. always covered, can't tell definitively by the shape (may be a Nova) but I can see massive slicks & ladder bars from the road.
Put nice letters in all 3 mailboxes - no responses! |
Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
I know of some old cars tucked away around here too, but none in the kind of time capsule state this Z is in...that's just crazy. Hope I get a chance to see it up close someday!

Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
It amazes me how much stuff keeps turning up in Pennsylvania. You wouldn't think there's be so many well preserved cars in the snow belt. Must have been a LOT of muscle cars in this state back in the day.

You wouldn't believe what's hiding still in PA. And not rusted up stuff. |
Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
If you guys are "out hunting" here in PA, let me know, we can meet up, as I would like to shoot some pics of cars, if found and allowed. I am in Butler. My job takes me all over Western and Central PA and some of the things I have seen......both good and bad cars and hulks of what were once cars..........

I'm north of you in Knox. Father-in-law worked at Armco for 34 years before retiring about 8 years ago. |

Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
I think his 69 Camaro with the JL-8 is an L78 car?? Black I believe.
|
Re: Time Capsule 1969 Z/28
Yes Sam, it is a Black 69 L78 JL8 X66 custom gut
car and is almost identical to mine, they were even built the same week. Skip has had his Black car to the SLS several times and was part of the SLS 6.5 @ MCACN this year. Skip is one of the good guys https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...9-dscf0463.jpg |
