Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Is there an "X" on the left valve cover?
It seems like Every Olds you see nowadays has it. Like the Caution Fan sticker on a Camaro. |
Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
No, but I'll make certain there is one there for the show.

I personally inspected this car on behalf of the previous owner, so if anyone would like more information, let me know.
It is indeed one bad ass automobile! Bashton MCACN Managing Member |

Thanks for the opportunity. Would you consider a Yenko Deuce trade on the Black W-30? : ) |

Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Bookends with the '68. I'd be curious to see if one is any quicker than the other.
|
Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Just need a black '69 for a complete set of W-31s.
500 made in 1968, all 4 speeds 913 made in 1969 1,352 made in 1970 https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...am_rod_149.jpg |

Nice Docs - Eddie M is from Monaca. Do you remember this loaded W31, Eddie?!
P.S. any relationship with Ewing Chev. of Canton, OH? |
Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Eddie is much older than Elmer!
|
Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Just spoke with one of the prior owners who said he bought the car 28 years ago and had it at the Olds Nationals just prior to selling it in 2009 ?
So the car was in New Castle PA, for all those years and he bought it from a Guy in Beaver Dam. Anyone from out that way remember anything? |
Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
That is a beautiful W-31!! When I was seventeen I traded a v8 vega for a 70 w-31 orange 4speed post car! Wish I still had it

Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Thanks, glad to see that there are some Olds aficionados out there
I hooked up with owner #2, who purchased the car directly from Elmer back in the late 1980s when he was 18 years old. So the chain of ownership is now complete. Both he and Elmer have some back in the day pics, they are going to scan and send. I'll post them when I get them. |

Hard to say what wheels look the best. Dog-dish really look "muscular", and "tough". Have you tried any 15" Chrome SSl? I REALLY like that car! Great docs, too!

Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Hi guys. My name is Dan and I am the 2nd owner...lol. I bought the car in 1988 from the original owner and sold it around 1991 or 1992. Those last 2 pics posted of it were from me. The one with the Keystone Classics is from 1989 and the one with the Rally wheels is from May 1991. I loved that car and wish I still had it. My first car was a 1972 Cutlass S. I'm glad the new owner contacted me and glad to be updated on the cars whereabouts. I will continue to monitor this thread and will answer any questions if anyone has any.

Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Its an awesome car, I have driven it, it goes real good and is a blast to drive

Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Thanks to all the former owners, friends and family for helping put the chain of ownership back together.
Elmer was approx 19 when he bought it new and Dan was approx 18 years old. They both sound like they had lots of fun and adventure with the car. This one survived with all of its original drivetrain and most of the original bolt on components. The 8-track player was added as was the rear Wing. These W-Machines are very difficult at times to document and even with the broadcast card showing W-30 or W-31 it won't prove whether or not it was a manual or an automatic and only has the body number / trim tag to tie it to the car. Welcome Dan. He's had some other very Kool cars and sold this one to get a '69 Chevelle. |
Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Here is the 69 Chevelle. I bought this from John Kunsak. It was an IHRA A-stock national record holder in the late 80's. I bought it about 1991 with 17,000 miles on it...all 1/4 mile at a time...lol.

and my 57 Chevy. This was bought from Dan Chisholm, who is now racing a '55 gasser i believe https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...8-57_chevy.jpg
|
Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
sorry. the chevelle was a record holder in the late 70's. not 80's. it was a malibu but built as a COPO replica with 427 for the A stock class. i had a couple different 454s in it. my fast time was 11.69 at 116 MPH at quaker city in salem ohio. i also raced it at norwalk

Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Very cool that you're here Dan. Really like the white headers on the W-31. Welcome aboard!!!
|
Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
Thanks. those headers were the ceramic coated ones. i think they were blackjack. i sold the car cause i wanted to race and didn't want to tear up the W31. i sold the 57 in 2003 and walked away from it. my son started racing professional karts for awhile so we focused on that. he raced with a few NASCAR drivers (Jamie McMurray and Erik Jones) and Indy car drivers (Mark Dismore). that was our goal for him but our pockets weren't deep enough so we sold all that a few years ago too. no fast vehicles in the family anymore
|
Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
I met Mark Dismore many years ago in the garages at Indy. He was in a VIOLENT accident and if my memory is correct, he never drove again.

Re: 1970 Black on Black W-31 4 speed
he came back to racing. that crash was i believe in 1991. he won at texas about 1999. he was teammates with tony stewart ans actually got tony the ride. i got to know him pretty well. we pitted with him and mark jr. when we raced nationals. i used to talk to mark jr. a couple of times a month and mark sr. a couple of times a year. my son raced against him (we were pitted with them too) about 3 years ago. my son got beat by a 55 year old...lol. they own a kart dealership in new castle indiana and we were racing the brand they supported and we got all our parts from them. mark jr. was best friends with dan wheldon and dismores have a race every year at their track called the robopong 200. the race required at least 2 drivers and 1 kart. mark jr. and wheldon always partnered up. mark jr. was cutting back on his racing so i asked him if he wanted my son to race with them as a 3rd driver. mark said he would mention it to wheldon but i never got an answer. a couple months later wheldon was killed in vegas. the robopong was a week after that. but i found out wheldon accidentally signed up for a race in australia the same weekend as the robopong so he wasn't gooing to race it anyway. so mark jr. decided not to race it too. so mark sr. teamed with josef newgarden using the kart wheldon was supposed to run and they won the race. wheldon lived with dismores when he came here from england. they picked him up at the airport.
anyway, both mark jr and sr and class acts. very good people. we never did get to meet dan wheldon but heard he was a class act too Here are the 2011 series standings. My son only raced that 1 race in that series. He is Blaise Haynes. https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/pics...18682-glss.jpg |
