Sun Distributor Machine and Scope
 

OK, I was jealous of Rick's new distributor machine. 1. They look cool. 2. If you are re-curving an old points style distributor, they really are a time saver. Much easier to do on the bench than in the car with a timing tape or dial back light.

I want one, but find it hard to justify shippin. So... found one on Craigslist locally. Sherri and I go to check it out this evening. Guy says he has all kinds of stuff from a 50's 60's garage. The owner (90 plus years old) just passed away. I was determined not to buy anything but the 680 distributor machine and had already negotiated a very fair price. For pete's sake, this one even has the manometer still intact.

So... turns out he has a matching cabinet Model 300 scope set up complete with the metered air set up to do leak down testing. And he has all the manuals and all the spec cards from 1956 - 1964. The box for the spec cards clips on the side of the 300 cabinet. Removes easily to store in the cabinet if you want. Even has a notebook with tons of other manuals for other sun equipment. Then the icing. Guy pulls out the original invoice from 1959 (along with a couple of warranty repair invoices) from when the original owner bought the 680 and the 300 along with a VAT 20 (I passed on the VAT20). So I bought it all... except for the VAT 20 (showing some serious restraint, don't you think?) Like a kid in a candy store.

Wow, that was a boatload of money in 1959!!! Gotta do a whole bunch of tune-ups to pay for that baby.

Went through all the tune up cards. Have every year from 56-66 except 65. Guess the guy didn't want to spring for the service in 65.

Out of all those cards, I am only missing 3; one from 1958 and two from 1963. Believe it or not I found two of them (already bought them) on Ebay, and may have a line on the third.

I found one last night.
Set is now complete, other than missing 1965.

I am guessing complete sets of the 67, 68, 69 and 70 are hard to come by, those being the hay day of the muscle car.

There's a few vendors here that frequent the area swapmeets and have a bunch of the metal SUN card boxes that are filled with the sheets.
You can buy each sheet for $2.
I'll look for 1965 for you next time I see them...Do you want every 1965 vehicle?

I don't know that I want to even try to buy a complete set of 1965. Most sets I see are picked over, and all the high performance model cards are missing.

I think there are about 75 cards in all for 1965, but not sure.

The only reason I went looking for the three cards is to complete a set.

If I stumble on the right deal, fine; if not, I am satisfied with what I have for now.

That manometer is the shit.Very few had em,and even fewer exist today.
I found one here with it from 1959,and they guy decided not to sell it.

Thanks to my man Verne, I have a complete set of cards from 56 - 66. He sent me a FULL SET (83 cards) for 1965.

He also sent me the card for my 69Z. Very cool.

I want to pay this forward at least a little bit.

Do you have a &quot;murcan&quot; car model year 56 to 66? Would you like the Sun tune up card? I know it won't be the same as having on original card, but I can scan front and back and send you a good copy on card stock.
