Nice car, love the Gobi Beige cars. I've seen Sandalwood interiors, but very few with Gold Guts - the last one we saw was the L78 project car on Steve's site....

Originally white stripes and full wheel covers - which full wheel covers did the SS get? Don't know that I've ever seen them. Usually poverty caps or 5 spoke SS wheels.

There were 2 different full size wheel covers available...one was the normal Chevy one used on Impala, Nova and Chevelle...and there was a finned Corvette style option as well.

Seems a little pricey to me. Very nice car, and I too, LOVE the earth-tone colors. I guess 50 large doesn't get much bought any more.

I thought the air cleaner did not have the valve on the air horn on the SS350 in 1969?

I believe the automatic cars had the heat valve...4 spd cars did not...

is that photo a 4 spd??

Re: 1970 nova ss Survivor

Tom, you are right it is a 4-speed car California car. I do not know if the car will sell for his asking price but I paid stupid money for a 69 SS350 4-speed Nova about 6 months ago. You just never know when a car pushes all your buttons.

RPOL88 08-29-2014 04:47 PM

Re: 1970 nova ss Survivor

I agree. Not enough bolts on the valve covers to bring that money.

I think $30-$35,000 is a lot closer to the real number for this nova.

Perhaps a little less even, although I personally might like the color combination, it is not really helping the value....

When I first moved here in 73, a guy had one in that color combo with an L34 396. It was a cool looking piece.

Mid twenties would be fair for a 350 auto with aftermarket air and some rattle can work under the hood. Those arne't the original front seat covers unless somebody added some foam. I'm sure its a nice car, but I would want to lay my eyes on it for sure.

I live in Toccoa, GA now. I need to ask my uncle if he remembers seeing this car back in the day. He graduated from high school in 1970 and loves Novas so I bet he remembers it. There is another Nova in Toccoa that is just as clean as that car is that was purchased new by a lady that lives a few miles from me. We've tried to buy it many times but she never would sell it. I'll see if I can get some pics to share the next time I see it out.

A question that came up on Stevesnovasite. Was the TH400 available on the 1970 SS 350 Nova?

You have to see Gobi Beige in person, it's not terrible - but not for everyone. Some folks actually like it

I like it,
It looks like a very mellow yellow more than a beige when you see it in person, something like the earlier Butternut Yellow

It does make you think of BY or Lemonwood Yellow, but when you see GB next to BY - night and day! It will really look tan / beige next to BY.

I don't think it was possible during 1970,based on factory & dealer paperwork I've seen & reserved only for the Big Block.
Of course paper isn't always reflective of what they really did.
If it was, would think numerous owners should be easily able to prove it.

Re: 1970 nova ss Survivor

Have now heard from a number of sources that the TH400 showed up in factory installs on numerous SB cars. Seems if a car had a 3 speed automatic, the factory installed whatever they had. If there was shortage of TH350's, they put in TH400's. Apparently, many SS350's have TH400's and even some 307 V/8 cars have them. Few people in those days probably knew the difference anyway. As long as your 3 speed automatic transmission worked reliably nobody really cared what it was.

Re: 1970 nova ss Survivor

Not saying it's impossible to have a turbo 400 in a SB SS or plain Jain small block, but I have owned 50 or so 68-72's and looked at hundreds more and I have never seen or heard of one. It's not as simple as sticking a 400 in there if you don't have a 350. Different; cross member, output shaft, drive shaft, kick down switch. different front spring for the added weight, As common as the 350 trans were in those Novas I just don't see GM running out. But never say never.

If it can be believed, the paperwork on the SS350 being discussed in this thread, says it has a TH400.

My best friend had a sm blk 70 ss w a T 400 back in about 1980..by then anything may have changed, but we always thought it was original.

I think in the ad says it has a Turbo Hydromatic Transmission. I may be missing where it says it's a 400.

It does say M40 on the trans option.. That is T400 correct? And M35 was T 350 I believe.

Somewhere I have seen a discussion about the M40 designation as referring to the Turbo-Hydramatic transmission and not necessarily which one.

The only 70 Nova to come with a factory Th400 was the Yenko Deuce.

The paperwork on this SS350 states: OM40AB TURBO HYDRA-MATIC.

My 1970 L78 was built with an M40 TH400.....GM Canada documented.

M35 was Powerglide
M38 was TH350
M40 was TH400

Anyone know the rear ratio this Gobi came with?

Re: 1970 nova ss Survivor

The POP calls out [CRE] 350/300hp w/TH350 trans...

the trans code on the POP is YOM06...I can't match that up with anything I have.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/321504970936?ssPageName

simple solution to this...just have the guy post a pic of the tranny from the underside...that will settle it.

Wilma

**update..Nastyz28 site has listing for TH350 trans...Y = Toledo Plant TH350 Trans..

http://nastyz28.com/camaro/camaro70.html

as I said before...no TH400 with 350/300hp...only the Deuce
