The First Yenko?

Re: The First Yenko?
Even more 'interesting" story...BKH
|
Re: The First Yenko?
"Accurate rendition" sums it up.
|
Re: The First Yenko?
so how do you put a price on a non-converted yenko. To me it is just a 67 camaro that may or may not have been used for the yenko package development. A yenko clone with some interesting un-proved history.
|
Re: The First Yenko?
So no one from the dealership at that time remembers a gold "test mule" car that was around for a year at a small dealership like yenko? seems impossible to me.
|
Re: The First Yenko?
Is Mark Gillespie on here at all? You would think he would remember this car if it was anything special. I don't think Yenko installed spoilers or emblems on the 67 Camaros. Also, this car appears to have a big block heater core. I believe the early 427 Stomper cars, which were originally SS350 cars, retained their small block heater cores. From reading the story in Mecum Monthly on this car I came away with the impression that this is simply the first 67 Camaro that Yenko received and was restored as a 427 clone to get a little more ROI on it.

Re: The First Yenko?
It's not even an original car anymore, it's a Yenko clone with date correct parts, big deal.
The last thing I think about when I drive my car is the hour is was produced.. |

Re: The First Yenko?
Thanks Charlie! I see where the truthful posts rate here. If that is the censorship that you want..... I don't need to be here. I can sling truthful mud with the best of them. If someone wants to post lies and BS about the integrity of my car.....I will call them out on it. Nothing clears anything up better than 1966 Yenko Chevrolet paperwork.
If this is how it is.... please remove all my information from this site, including any VIN and info on my car..... and I will not be back. Thanks, Rick |
Re: The First Yenko?
If you just want to come a sling mud by all means find somewhere else to sling it. If you want to factually make a case about something without calling names etc then you can. Where you were going will not fly here.

Re: The First Yenko?
These posts are about the 67 Camaro that was the first Camaro shipped to Yenko that was sold at Mecum Dallas for $300K so I'm kind of confused as to what YenkoYS100 is so upset about unless he is the one who bought the car. Even then the auction description more or less states that the car is a clone of a 67 Yenko 427 Camaro.

Same rules for you. Play nice! |
Re: The First Yenko?
Are there pics of the car when it was found? Was the car together or in pieces? What parts were on the car? Though it went to Yenko, unless someone who worked there can confirm what it was used for, its just another Camaro. It looks great dressed up as a SYC, just nothing there to pedigree it as one.
|
Re: The First Yenko?
A member here, found it / owned it, researched it and then sold it, to Gary who in turn sold it at Mecum.
|
Re: The First Yenko?
Actually, one SYC member ZL1#61 found the car, researched the car, paid for the car and partnered with another previous SYC member to sell it. ZL1#61 was just happy to get his money back when the car was sold, he was not involved with the sale to Gary.

Re: The First Yenko?
That is not quite how it worked out Steve however it's close. The car was completely together and was a decent driver when it was found. That being said, the car did have some issues however it is certainly a legit car. I am amazed that it sold for that amount as I did not perceive the car to have that kind of value. The car have no pedigree beyond a standard 327 coupe. That being said, it was a very, very early production and according to the body number was one of the first Camaros built. I believe it was an August of 66 production perhaps even the first week of production.

Re: The First Yenko?
124377N101382 - that's early, but not that early....
|
Re: The First Yenko?
All of my info indicates that this was just an " average " Camaro that happened to be delivered to Yenko from early production. It was still listed on the floorplan a year later. Probably used as a customer demo.. I may have chased parts in it , but I used a lot of different cars for that !

Re: The First Yenko?
Thanks for the reply Kurt. According to the cowl tag that was on the car when it was found, it was produced 08B and has a body number of 1557.
|
Re: The First Yenko?
That being said, the tag had issues.
|
Re: The First Yenko?
Agreed. Funky tag.
I'd have to see it better, but the history on the car says there is no reason for the tag to be modified - when it was found it was just a car. |
Re: The First Yenko?
clearly the tag had been off the car at one time or another

Does anyone know if any of this is accurate, considering the cowl tag that is on the car seems pretty ridiculous ?? And I assume the hidden VINs match the State issued VIN ?? Is any possibility that the Yenko list has a typo and this is not really a Yenko car?? I assume the NCRS was checked? Just thinking out loud ... Hmmmm I'm still amazed at the selling price.... Wowwwwww !! |
Re: The First Yenko?
Yes, the hidden VINs are original and do match the state issued VIN that is on the car. The current cowl tag on the car is most certainly not the original. Frankly, I would not put a lot of stock in the fact that the tag was accurate when the car was found as the tag had been of the car prior to the car being found. I agree, there was no reason to fool with the tag as it was "just a Camaro" when found. I will see if I can come up with some "as found" pictures later. The car was actually a pretty clean driver.
