Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
Is the 70 L89 ragtop a documented L89 car? This is the first time I've ever seen it. I didn't know there were any documented 70 L89 convertibles in existance. Also, shouldn't the steering column be black. The 3 Yenkos are well known cars.

Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
The government got a new auction company - darn!
|
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
Also interested to know if the 1970 Chevelle SS 396 L78 L89 Convertible is the real deal. If so bring it to MCACN 2014 for the Chevrolet L89 Showcase.

Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
The L89 looked rather dubious to me. Freshly stamped engine pad. All the other cars were real deal, known cars with original paperwork. I don't think there is any original paperwork with that 70 L89.
So who is coming to New Jersey in September? |

Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
I only know of one real 70 L78 Chevelle with documents and that is a coupe. There are a couple of other coupes that are not confirmed 100% and I have never heard of a real L78 convertible known to exist. Maybe Mr70 may know of one but I have never heard about it.
|
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
I believe the green Nova is the one that Greg Joseph sold to the the former present owner for something like $600k? Don't recall what paperwork was with the nova but the only thing the ragtop had was a fake laminated repro window sticker.
|
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
Dave bought the L89 Convertible from RK Motors and we discussed this car many of times!! Said he they had proof! Never saw it..
Its funny a few always chime about this Nova knowing this car is as real as it gets with approval from Vince. Sorry!! I would take his word over those cars sold with only a affidavit from some previous owner!! I would more then happy to sell that Nova again with or without docs!! I hope it ends up in another great collection who wont care what 10 people in the hobby think!! |
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
Let's stick to the facts regarding the Nova. There was a statement that the car had / has docs? If it does great, I'd know that I sure would like to see them. As far as Vince Emme verifying the Nova.....I'd like to see that too?
|
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
Click the link on the nova!! Docs from Vince..
|
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
I have seen that document to verify the car as one of the 37 or so L78 Novas on the Yenko Sports Cars Inventory Sheet. I have no doubts that it is one of those Novas. I see nothing to verify the car as a 427 Conversion?
There have been other such Nova's on the same list, which were never converted. Where is Marlin when you need him? I'll defer to those who have much more knowledge that me in this matter. |
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
I see that they added a link for the docs for all the cars but the L89 ragtop. I guess the absence of docs speaks for itself on that one.

Stefano, sorry about any confusion concerning what I said about "original docs." I assumed it was a known car and don't know all of the intricacies about the converted versus non-converted cars. |
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
Vince states it has:
vinyl roof am radio |
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
From the questions on the auction site it appears that you have to be physically present at the auction - no phone bidding. And no buyer's commission!
...and no, I have no money to bid with but I will be there both days just to watch the circus. |

Yes, that green Nova was previously owned by Gregg Joseph who sold it in the summer of 2010. Car was originally sold out of V.V. Cooke in KY, and (per my failing memory...) was found by Mitch Moore and Mick Price - I believe still in original paint in full 427 regalia. I've seen the pre resto pics that Joe Grom from Chevy II Only has, pretty cool car. Like most of the '69 Y-Novas, I don't think this car has any bullet proof doc's to prove it was a 427. I think that Suydam's Y-Nova is the only one that has Yenko paper stating the car was a 427 from new. I have a window sticker from another car, but it's not been found to my knowledge. |
David Nicoll US Marshall's Super Car Auction
David Nicoll purchased his car collection with the blood of others – literally. During his time as president of BLS, the FBI and the U.S. Attorney’s Office maintain that Nicoll received $33 million in payments from a medical blood test bribery scheme that he personally ran for seven years, and which netted more than $100 million in total revenue. Per prosecutors, BLS would bribe physicians to send their patients for medical tests which were oftentimes unnecessary, to be paid for by insurers. Far from being sly and frugal with his ill-gotten profits, Nicoll was an extravagant spender. It’s on record that he spent $154,000 at a gentleman’s club, over $400,000 on sports tickets, $700,000 on an apartment for his “female companion,” and, most importantly, over five million dollars on cars.
Nicoll, however, did not spend that five-million dollars of blood money on new gold-coated Lamborghinis or diamond speckled Rolls-Royces (although his automobile collection did include a few Ferrari models). Instead, the bulk of his money was spent on some of the finest, rarest, and most coveted muscle cars ever created, and the inventory list of the A.J. Willner auction reads like a “best of” list for the years 1967-1970. For sale are a 1967 Shelby G.T. 500, a 1969 Yenko Nova, a 1969 Yenko Camaro, a 1969 Yenko Chevelle, a 1970 Plymouth Hemi Superbird, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 L78/L89 convertible; and a 1970 Ford Mustang Boss 429. - See more at: http://blog.hemmings.com/index.php/2014/...h.y3TyOjG2.dpuf |

I had just never seen any proof that this particular Nova had been converted. A letter from Vince stating that, based on the records he has it recieved a 427 conversion, would go a long way, IMHO. |
Re: David Nicoll US Marshall's Super Car Auction
Since all these cars were purchased by money scammed from Insurance companies,(money paid by you and me in premiums) I believe each and every one of us should be able to take these cars out and drive the $hit out them at least once.
Don't know about all you, but I'm tired of getting screwed. BIG |
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
Stefano,
Do the Vince Emme records for the other Novas say anything different on their certificates when it comes to documented 427 versus 396 cars? Something like "Vinyl Roof" "AM Radio" "427 CONVERSION" |
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
More stuff keeps getting added to auction site. This today:
<span style="font-style: italic">"We have employed two seperate industry professionals to certify the cars prior to the auction. Their certifications for each vehicle will be posted and available for viewing on or about September 1st."</span> Can't wait to see what the report says on the red ragtop. |
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
The Nova being retailed by V.V. Cooke adds to the chances it was a converted car, if sold unconverted wouldn't it be more likely to have been sold by Yenko? Sure it could've been dealer traded but being it went to a dealer in the Yenko network only seems to strengthen the converted side of the debate? ~ Pete |
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
It certainly strengthens the case Pete. Lots of $$ though & tough call without original owner statement or paperwork. Like Stefano pointed out.....what if the original owner shows up with a non-converted statement?

Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
Only going on my memory, but I seem to recall a 70 L78/L89 vert at Hooked on Classics in Watertown about 10-15 years ago. It may have been a clone but I don't recall.

Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
Opinions please - Does the Yenko Camaro invoice look original? I am questioning the invoice price of the power steering and cast aluminum wheels. Also - no SW gauges on this one? I have seen the Atlas wheels and SW Gauges invoiced together @ $261.25 - anyone seen separate pricing on second batch cars?

Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
If you're talking about the Yenko window sticker, no it does not look original to me.
|
Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
If you have a link to the window sticker pic, I can tell you if it is a repro from me or not....

Re: 3 Yenko's and others at auction
Thanks! I could tell in 2 seconds that it's one of mine - the originals were mostly hand typed, so the diff is night/day. I did the window stickers for the Deuces, then expanded into the '69 cars for awhile - I don't do them anymore, can't find a typewriter!
Per my notes, I did this one for Gary Holub many years ago as part of a group of 6 window stickers that he wanted. The options were listed as I've seen them on original Yenko Camaro stickers, with the atlas wheels priced per the Yenko price list. No real science on these stickers, they are meant to be a conversation starter - mission accomplished. |
