My soon to be wife's new project driver. 1969 Z/28
6 Attachment(s)
My fiance told me she wanted a 1969 Camaro so I was on the hunt (of course she didn't want any of the cars I currently have here). Was at a local swap meet a few weeks ago and got to talking with some guys and they told me about this car. Me and her went up to look at it and she liked it so we struck a deal on it. It's an X77 Z/28 which happens to be an original Rally Green car. Tach and gauges and 4.10 gears. Non matching drive train. No other options really. Car was redone with GM quarters, tail panel, door skins, and fenders back in the late 80's and was driven and used like it should be. Paint is rough and checking but car is still very solid and I personally love the patina. We're gonna clean it up, I'll add some cool Day 2 stuff I have and make it look a little more correct under the hood but that's all up to her in the end. I figured if she wanted a 1969 Camaro, let's get her something cool. Big thanks to John (C1SS396) for all the help this past weekend picking it up and getting it home.

Re: My soon to be wife's new project driver. 1969 Z/28
Hey Matt, is it an original cowl car?
|
Re: My soon to be wife's new project driver. 1969 Z/28
Someone has added the chrome trimmings ( X33 has them X77 don't), and an Z/28 should have the long bumper horns in the rear. Maybe these changes were made when it was repaired in the 80's
|
Re: My soon to be wife's new project driver. 1969 Z/28
Yes, the chrome trim was added as the previous owner liked it better.
|
Re: My soon to be wife's new project driver. 1969 Z/28
Man, you cant buy a used Z28 and not show under the hood! can you?

Here it is. Not that impressive. Luckily I have most of the stuff here to make it look right at least.

Re: My soon to be wife's new project driver. 1969 Z/28
Hay Matt you forgot something !
So normally after a road trip you may have to clean some soda bottles, wrappers etc. Not a trip with Matt this is what was behind the seat in my truck after picking up the Z. http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/i...ps6a00043b.jpg |

Very, very cool. She has fine taste in cars - and, given your generosity and patience, in men too!

Very cool! By the way the last time I saw one a guy had a straight six in one a few years back. Good luck with your new ride! Sal |

Steve- Any chance that car was from Illinois at any time? About 25 years ago we had one like that (can't remember if our interior was white houndstooth or orange). RS/SS 350/Auto/Air/Tilt/Console/Guages. Had mostly original paint and all original interior at the time. Dad drove it out to Carlisle around 1987 and sold it there. Jake |

This is a very original car as well. I believe |

Just got our NCRS letter back today. It looks like they are still in business which coincidentally started in 1969. I'm hoping that the first year is always the most memorable. I'll call them this week.

So I dressed it up under the hood a little better for the time being since it looked so horrible before that. Installed a set of original 1969 no dripper valve covers and a cowl air cleaner. Anything looks better than no air cleaner and rusty chrome moroso valve covers.
Thanks John and Lauren McKee for the cool vintage Camaro jacket she can rock while out cruising. |

Re: My soon to be wife's new project driver. 1969 Z/28
Very nice Matt. Turn those non droppers around! The crossed flags go on the passenger side. I know it's easier to put oil in, but I believe the cut outs on the valve covers around the intake only line up one way. After all, it is the next Z off the line after mine! Lol
|
Re: My soon to be wife's new project driver. 1969 Z/28
Good stuff Matt. A little more cleaning under hood and she'll be in good shape.
Nice seeing you @ Carlisle... |

I noticed that after I installed them. That's what I get for being in a hurry. Engine has to come out soon anyway so I'll take care of it then. |

Just an update. Back in September, I pulled the engine because it was smoking above 3500 rpm and there was oil pumping out of everywhere. This is ok because the car did this when I bought it so I knew the engine had to come out eventually.

This ended up being (one of) my problems.
I feel bad because my wife's been bugging me to get it finished up but I've been collecting parts (thanks to some of the members here) and getting another engine together to put into the car. |
