Re: Jack Head Chevrolet CA

If you're talkin' Jack Head Chevy in Alhambra CA, they were a well known and connected dealer also the delivering dealer for ZL1 #39...some lists note #13 too?
Here's links to an old post here where the below Mako Shark pic came from also a past feature w/ Gag's Jack Head delivered L72 Chevelle and a link to the Shark on the 70's Funnycars plus a plate frame picture that was on eBay.

Excuse me, but what a name for a dealer...."Jack Head". I wouldn't be caught DEAD driving around in a car with that plate frame on the back!

One was for the front of the car, the other for the rear. I assume the dealer name would be on top in the front, more chance of seeing the name in the rear view mirror, and on the bottom in the rear.

Jack Head Chevrolet

Jack Head Chevrolet was a high performance chevy dealer for only 7years and sold many high performance Nova's, 396 Chevelle, 427 Camero, 427 Vet, 427 Caprice, El Camino's etc... and sponsored the Mako Shark Vet funny car.
Jack Head is still hanging on at 95yo. I am his son and I still have some of the original frames and memorabilia. Great days and great cars during the 60's and still working on one.

Had a Commander once, named Richard Head, call sign was "Dick". True story.

Welcome jon. Post some pics of the items if you don't mind.

Jon,

Welcome to the best car website in existence. Good to hear your dad is still with us.

Nice to have you check in here and nice to hear that about your dad. I have a friend that used to have a red '67 RS Z-28 that came out of Jack Head Chevrolet when new. Definitely have seen some other neat hi-po cars come out of there. Great days and great cars indeed.

Welcome Jon!
Can you tell us why the dealership only was around for 7 years?
I assume none of the vehicle documentation from the dealership still exists...?
Thanks!

Phone number is just "12" in 1969 or later? That must be out in the sticks!

Cool info on Jack Head, if you look at that address on Google Earth street view it's now a massage and beauty equipment place with Chinese lettering all over it.... so even though the Chevy dealer went TU there is a happy ending

Jon my Dad was the owner of the Mako Shark. I just happened to find a business card from Jack Head. I guess my Dad sold cars there for awhile. Which I never knew.

Like Gay Pontiac in Texas. Lol Dickinson, really? Drag cars, hmmmm

Note the paint job.

markinnaples 06-22-2020 04:30 PM

That paint job is spectacular on that FB funny car! Total 70's style, love it.

I think the current association of the rainbow is a more of modern day phenomenon, since the original thoughts of the rainbow are not remotely what it means today. Also, it's funny how pink today is associated with females; this was not a female association until the early 1940's.

ronniegman 08-18-2023 10:27 AM

I have heard rumors of #39 being stolen from Jack Head , but really have never heard the story or if that is what happened to it . Anybody have any info on it?

William 08-18-2023 02:56 PM

Some years ago, a racer from CA commented that ZL-1 #39 was a race car since new, still active. Possibly never titled or registered.

That's the story of ZL-1 #56. When it was located several years ago, the owner was not aware of its history.
