Re: WOW hot wheels
hotwheels An allegedly sealed case of Hotwheels cars from the 1960s. Unless the guy can provide an X-ray image of the box there is no way in hell I'd ever bid for something like that. Looks like several layers of sealing tape on the box. There's some crazy tursting souls out there. Bid up $35,000 at the moment. |

Re: WOW hot wheels
That case of hw's has been on ebay for quite sometime. Owner thinks he can command price pre 2007. Hmmmmmm would I rather own a '69 Camaro SS 396 for $35k or a box of mint brand new hw's???? This is a hard one to decide.........

Re: WOW hot wheels
23 indecisive bidders bid 81 times?
|
Re: WOW hot wheels
The seller is nuts if he has a reserve that hasn't met at that price. I won't even comment on the high bidder.

It looks to be the original tape. A lot of times a vintage factory sealed case of collectables like this are worth more than the contents of the case if it were opened and sold individually. I collect unopened boxes of baseball and football cards and know that is the way it is with the vintage baseball/football cases. James |
Re: WOW hot wheels
I have liked Hot Wheels since I was a kid, but WOW. $35k??? Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda

Re: WOW hot wheels
The seller appears to have something pretty rare and desirable in the Hotwheels community. I wonder if the Hotwheels guys rag on us for paying what we do for our cars?

Re: WOW hot wheels
The minute anyone opens the box to confirm its contents the value collapses. Funny if they're all lime green Deoras.

Just being cautious. Like I said - there is no way to verify what is actually in that box without x-raying it. If it happens nowadays with people buying new Ipads in sealed boxes from Walmart, that turn out to be a piece of slate roofing tile, instead of an Ipad, you can be sure that someone thought of that same theft idea 40 years ago - opening the box, and replacing the contents and then resealing it. |
Re: WOW hot wheels
Back in 1970 these were $2 toys. There was no reason to open and replace the contents with something else. The tape on this case looks to be authentic. There is a list of some of the cars stamped on the tape on one end ot the box. If I collected Hot Wheels and spent that kind of money on them, I wouldn't hesitate to buy this case.
James Edit to add, it is up to $39,000 now. |
Re: WOW hot wheels
$40,200.00 and the reserve wasn't met.
