I'm looking for information about the following dealer:

Zone 9 Dealer code 695
Dealer Name: Winders Chevrolet Co.
Info off my NCRS Historic Document Services shipping records

Unfortunately, the dealership has since been converted to a lunch diner. Perhaps someone cleaned out the old dealership and found/kept some old paperwork and documentation???

I'm also looking for information relating to my 1969 COPO Chevelle that, according to NCRS records, was produced on July 26, 1969 and was delivered to that dealership. I have records confirming the car was still registered in the Columbus area until 1985 (possibly longer). The car is Dover White with Black vinyl top and Red bench seat interior - column shift automatic.

Any information about the dealership, any other cars from the dealership or my Chevelle would be GREATLY appreciated.

You haven't missed anything Helmut, it was a past sold item on eBay or elsewhere.

Winders Chevrolet was at the Corner of N. High St and Hubbard ave in Columbus from 1924 until the seventies(year it sold is unclear and still checking resources) when it sold to Bobby Layman Chevy which is now on W. Broad St. When Layman took over, he was known as the &quot;Super Price Smasher&quot; because he would take a new Corvette and smash the windshield with a sledge hammer and say &quot;we're smashing high prices of new Chevrolets&quot;. You will like this, I was recently going to a house to buy some cabinets the was scheduled to be knocked down and I happened to go into the basement and found this full size newspaper ad from Herman Wines 45th anniversary sale. Do you know anything else about Bobby Layman Chevrolet or any one that worked there in the day? I'm trying to piece together any information about my Chevelle that was delivered to Winders in July of 1969. I've gotta find out whether Bobby Layman Chevy got and kept any paperwork from the old dealership?

Just knowing that Bobby Layman took over is very helpful for my search! I sure haven't been able to find out very much at all about Winders until you posted this.

----Don't know much about Winders, but Bobby Laymans daughter, Linda used to be hot and heavy with Terry M of Corvette fame. It was a long time ago but she was pretty hot.....Bill S

Good luck getting them to help out with your quest. I dont know anybody personally that works there that may be able to help. I do know one of the new car sales reps but he doesnt really understand all this crap that we cherish. Here is a few names that I copied from the BBB website. Note; I wouldnt hold out much hope as far getting Robert Layman(Bobby) on the phone as he passed away this past summer. Hope this is helpful and no friend, you cannot have the news paper ad. Sorry

It looks as though Herman Wine of Winders Chevrolet died in September 1980 at the age of 86 years old. Perhaps he couldn't take any more of those Super Price Smasher commercials?

I go by the dealership all the time they are out of business but the building is still there and their name is carved into the concrete above the building very neat old building I like that place
