Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone - A Great Idea from GM.

This action is being taken to protect the vehicle’s brand and customer’s investment by preventing the “cloning” of the Z/28. Dealers will be required to obtain specific vehicle & owner information before any parts order request can begin. Part orders for the restricted parts will be monitored and reported to the Camaro Program Team, GM Regional Warranty Managers and appropriate Field personnel. Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
This is similar to what Pontiac did in 1973 when the Super Duty 455 engine came out. All of a sudden there were hundreds of orders for the unique SD455 forged steel, connecting rods. Pontiac cancelled the orders and then issued an edict stating that any dealer placing an order for the rods had to include the car's VIN and further restricted it by limiting the order to only four connecting rods.

Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
Camaro has it all wrong, I hate to say this but they put stripes on the SS but not on the Z28? Is there a stripes package for the Z?
Pretty sure it performs awesome but what a Fugly (Short term for Funny and Ugly) looking car. IMO |
Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
No stripes as of now. You would think for $75K you could get a factory option since the car is a tribute to the original Z/28....a car that was known for two (kind of) trademark Rally's??
IMO...the only stripes that really looked right on the 5th gen anyway were the 2010 Berger editions-full length and painted on. |
Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
not a fan of this recent fad, black wheels

Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
Am I the only one that thinks this is a completely dumb idea? Now the kids and customers who can't afford a real Z28 now can't even clone or tribute their Camaro into one? Stupid. Now with VIN's telling you what the car originally was, there is no way to forge a Z/28 and trick an unsuspecting buyer. Now you have to be rich to afford one of these. Us regular guys can't afford one nor can we even clone one if we even wanted to.

Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
The black one has the wrong grille emblem.

Fugly really means F#$%ING Ugly. Which really was my first thought about the new Camaro when it came out a few years back. Sorry I am not a fan of this generation Camaro. |
Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
You'd think 1 and maybe 2 would go across an auction block rather than the showroom. Any guess on the markup?
|
Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
There's already a Chinese company selling exact copies of those bitchin' black wheels and I'm sure body kits will soon follow. Neighbor girl down the street already has them on her V6 Camaro.

Just found this thread: https://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbt...opics/556418/1 650K for bragging rights! I suppose there's always another high-roller out there who will buy it from him, perhaps at an auction, at a profit. |

I really hate when China comes in a copies any and everything American-------even this for God's sake! Wtf? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chengdu_J-20 |
Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
I have seen some factory alloy wheels in at the parts counters of some dealerships. Boxed in factory packaging, made in China.

Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
what a joke.. most the stuff from gm is from china
|
Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
Both of those cars are bad ass, and I like the black wheels. Can't wait to see how they perform on the track. Should be some good shoot outs between the Z and the new Boss and Shelby.

Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
So, I guess that "real" Z28 owners will now be stocking up on spares, since they will be the only ones allowed to buy them, and then be selling the spare parts on ebay? It will be long after my lifetime before they become anywhere near collectible or in demand. Any doubts, look at all the zero mileage Corvette pace cars that were put away that can still be bought at or below what they originally sold for, still in the original wrapper.

Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
Not a fan of black wheels on anything, and haven't been much of a new Camaro guy, but those two new Z's are awesome.

Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
I think the new tailights look awful.

Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
They redesigned the headlights, front grill, and rear taillights on all the new Camaros? Never saw any literature on this.

Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
Tail lights look like they are off an old Acura. Horrible

No stockpiling of parts. It looks like any replaced parts have to be sent back to for "Analysis". I guess to make sure that the only parts out there are only on real Z28 cars. |

I agree. I saw a new Corvette recently driving around that was white and had black wheels. I haven't seen another color yet, and while the body looked OK, the black wheels combined with the white pain was so ho hum. Taste is in the eye of the buyer - to each his or her own! |
Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
I'm not a fan of tge look, usually. I have seen a few cars which they are acceptable on- all high hp cars and so I have a rule. If the car truely is a BMF tge black wheels are okay. Where is that threshold? I think about 500 to the wheels gets you in the ballpark.
Black rims on poser cars are the worst! |

Black rims on poser cars are the worst! </div></div> X2! At some point the performance simply overrules the look(s), and ~500RWH can come with black wheels - especially if the body is black. I think the Z28 is simply awesome.... |
Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
This does not add up to me. If they are concerned about cloning when documentation can be had for cars after 1977 GM Vehicle Invoices, Build Records and Vintage Vehicle Information Availability,,,Clone the heck out of it. The docs WILL be avail to future collectors due to records retention above and beyond the 1960's.
Second it almost seems like the exurbanite buy in cost of obtaining a 2014 Z28 is as if they want to limit this vehicle and its PARTS. Limiting parts is a poor business practice in my mind. They might want to limit issue and use of incompatible parts on lesser equipped cars? If I was in a position I WOULD have one of these Bad Mothers & stock up on parts in the Chinese GM wrapper and liquidate them 30 years from now! |
Re: Camaro Z28 Clone Free Zone
Who's to say you can't buy a totaled Z-28, go to GM parts and order whatever you want then slap them on a non Z car??

especially since that what view most will have of the car! I personally like them better than the previous years taillights |
