Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Ugh! Those rear wheels! Why would someone mix 17s and 15s?!?!
|
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
I hope its real. Appears to be nice paperwork.
Has the Yenko crest ink stamp in the P-o-P common for this era? |

Looks like it was 13 years later when it was brought back to Yenko and had a Jenkins prepped block installed if that paperwork is correct. I would assume (pending any other docs or correct docs) this would be like someone buying a car at Baldwin Chevrolet and bringing it back 13 years later and converting it at Motion. Would not make it a Badlwin-Motion in the true sense of the word, but a Motion Modified car. Kinda like that Motion ZL-X Z-28? It is however a really cool ol car, in black no less with the seemingly real docs to back it up.I sure would dive it! Rich |
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Yeah, I would "drive" it too... at least, until I lost my licence. Nice!

Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Some good history and docs look legit. I agree, the wheels and several other parts of the restoration don't quite do it full justice. Hopefully the cars has some older pics to help balance out some of the current parts choices.
Triple Black Nova with Cragars is a pretty killer look! |
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
The core support looks weird. I do not remember the big hole on the left side on a factory big block Nova. Any observations of the trim tag and the rivets holding it? I might be mistaken but to me the rivets look solid in the middle.
|
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
A large hole on the left side of the core support indicates that the support is from a Nova with a SB & AC. This application has the larger opening for the radiator like the BB versions, but no weld nut, no holes on top for the flapper, and extra holes for the AC lines.

Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Trim tag calls out the #731 interior...plain jane vinyl seats and rubber floor mat. The door panels are correct, but it looks like they installed a carpet and deluxe seat covers. Not unusual since the std. covers are not readily available from places like PUI. Interesting car overall...I'll bet it really goes. The core support issue is a little confusing...perhaps this car was taken apart at some point due to an accident or the BB support was rusted out??
Cool connection Yenko to Jenkins. I wonder how much it will bring?? wilma |
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Tom is correct, the interior is not a 731 - the front seat belt retractors don't look like Nova versions either, not sure what is going on there. Has some ZJ5 items but not others - minor tweaks though.
I forget - which year did the trunk pan extensions get the extra 'ear' on the sides? |
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
If it was restored before dii started making the almost (still need tweeking) big block rad supports, this was the only type available. Tends to lead me to think this was done a while ago.
I think this will need some owner investigation with signed affidavits to make sure the stories are true. Could be interesting. |
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Cool car. But rhe trim tag has at least been off the car.

Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
At least Yenko being the original delivering dealer or not can be established through the new NCRS service. As for the invoices, other known originals need to be compared with them to see if correct era style/# ranges/handwriting etc. What seems strange is how SY1V and the Con-Vin also more vehicle info was noted on both invoices when only Yenko had the car...wasn't Jenkin's only finishing/assembling an engine? Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Is the NCRS service up and running yet?
|
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Regarding Yenko paperwork...note the name on the bottom "Norick-Oklahoma City"...Norick Brothers was the other major supplier of automotive forms..the big player was Reynolds and Reynolds. It would be interesting to see other Yenko docs from the time period to see what brand they are??
M...not sure I see what you mean about the seat belt retractors.?? wilma |
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
They are mounted pretty far back and don't appear to have the long retractor sleeve. They are not later versions because in 06B of '70 the Nova's switched to a non-retractor style where the strap simply laid on the floor. Not sure if it's my eyes or if they are Chevelle style.
The trunk floor side extensions have me puzzled as well.... Edit: as I thought, the '68-69 Novas have an 'ear' on the trunk extensions to help prevent stuff from falling down between the trunk floor and the quarter panel. They were no longer used in '70+ Novas, but are not on this car either. Perhaps they were engineered out of the '69 Novas by 04C? |
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Our 70 Autumn Gold L78 was built 1st week of July 1970...it has the long retractors with bench seat but that is with deluxe interior...I know our 69 Olympic Gold car had plain jane interior and the seat belts had retractors.
I will snap a few pics[belts/trunk] tomorrow at the shop of the 70...... |
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Could very well be with the custom interior cars, but the 731 cars lost their retractors in 06B - as the entire second order of Yenko Deuces are just belts.
Just to make sure I wasn't going crazy, here is the trunk 'ear' that I thought was on all '68-69 Novas. It might have been phased out by the time this black Nova was built though. http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...ps8b1af53b.jpg http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h6...pscb77daaf.jpg I like the paperwork on this car, and of course the engine with ties to both Yenko and Jenkins! Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
I can't read the receipts too well but
The Yenko receipt looks like its selling Jenkins a alu block The Jenkins receipt looks like it is selling Yenko a complete engine both dated 1982 I think Yenko became Sun Chevrolet in 1981 Don Yenko had Yenko Speed and Marine operating out of the old Cannonsburg building selling engines and parts after 1981 |
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
When I first read about this car, I thought of this article. I dug up the magazine, and it was from 1971. Neat to see another Black Nova with an aluminum block and Grumpy influence.

Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Dose the Trim tag itself look questionable?Like a repo?
|
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
Here are some shots of an original untouched 69 Nova trim tag...I don't think the one on the black car has been tampered with. wilma

i have an 69 l78 car, triple black, white double pinstripe,2 piece rocker trim with very nice original paint with zero panel replacement. my car is also built 04C, my vin is 477815. it has the squared off edges of the trunk floor. a good friend of mine bought my car in 72 from the original owner,so i know mine is correct
|
Re: ebay 1969 nova yenko/ grumpy car????
There are differences in the trunk floor from year to year on the spare tire hold down area. Early cars had the hump while later had none. Early 68 Novas had the ear and actually had card board inserts to keep things from falling into the void between the trunk drop, and qtr pnl. 70s don't have the ear that I've seen although very early ones might. If this car had trunk drops replaced, the repops do not have the "ear". That would be my guess. Again, from what I see, it looks like an older restoration. FWIW
