70 Nova vin/66 Corvette barn find
Came across a 70 CKO Nova motor today 10w395989. Does it belong to any car you might know?
Also helped the guy who bought the motor pull out a 66 Corvette convert/hdt. 427/425 4.10 rear. Been setting since 74. Bought new from Lujack Scherbrock in Davenport IA. Still with the original owner. A barn find in the truest sense. Pics to follow, but it may be a while. Yes, they're still out there. |

That block came from a late build car...the VIN is about 7,000 later than our 70 Autumn Gold car which was built in early July 1970. That motor may be one of the last ones built for the 70 L78's.

Very nice! Is that a lakewood scattershield in the back of the 'vette engine bay.

Seems the original flywheel/clutch went through the floor once. Almost took off his foot. Scatter shield seemed a pretty good idea.

I don't think that engine goes with that car if I understand correctly. It sounds like it is a '70 L78 engine. Car doesn't have to have an engine for display. Very cool as is.

That block in the pic, if my eye's are still good, says it is a 3904351. That is a 1967 427 engine.

The original motor is in the picture. The heads are there too. Another motor, the L78 Nova motor also came in the deal. He had the Nova motor in the car at one time. The Corvette exhaust manifolds are on it. I've sent Bruce all the pics I took that day. He's welcome to post what ever he wants from them.
I pushed hard for MCACN barn find, but the new owner probably isn't going to do that. I did truly try. As bad as that trailer looked, I think it actually helped keep the car in pretty good shape. It sat on wood with air circulating under it. The frame has no rust issues at all. |

A little off topic, But a bit ironic. Back in about 1981, I bought an L78 complete that a guy had in his Vette, The engine was a CE 70. Guy said he did not like Big Blocks and was putting a 350 in the car. He sold it to me for $35 FWIW.
